Thule tilt bed trailer

Hi Guys,

I wanted a small (read light) trailer for hauling my RZR. Here is what I found:

Thule galvanized tilt bed 8 1/2 foot x 5 foot. Approximately 450 lbs empty 2200 lbs gross. The front and rear gates fold down for loading or hauling long stuff.

The RZR fit perfectly with the stock wheels and tires. With my new 14 inchers I have to deflate the front tires a bit in order to get the rear gate to close. But then she doesn't wiggle around a bit. I put in 4 removable tie down rings from Tractor Supply just to hold her if things get crazy out on the road.

When the RZR is loaded rear forward, it takes a very light push to get the trailer tilted level. And no ramps required.

Just what the Doctor ordered if your tow vehicle is a light weight, too.

Bruce

LOL.....you got that right. The trailer has just enough room for the RZR and not much else. Sure works nice though.

Re: Thule tilt bed trailer

That is pretty sweet. How much did you have to give for that? I pull mine with a Jeep so trailer weight is an issue. I know what everyone is saying....."Buy a man truck." In good time, but the Jeep gets my trailer(6x10) where it needs to go it's just not happy about it.

Re: Thule tilt bed trailer

The Thule set me back $1495, but with the galvanized finish it should last a long time. So many of the new trailers I saw were rusting on the dealer's lot! It weighs 450 lbs. empty.

If I back the RZR in, it takes just a firm push to pivot level. Loaded front first, I couldn't get it to pivot with my full weight on it. Here's the site with the specs:

Re: Thule tilt bed trailer

Saw your Post and went and checked out Thule. Is yours the 5' professional. I ask because you say the RZR barely fits width wise, and on the box width for the 5' is 62". Curious, because I like the idea of being towed, then towing.

Re: Thule tilt bed trailer

Not to jump Boeing's post but yes, the trailer is their "professional" model. On ours, we added some galvi angles to the front gate to tilt it to allow add extra length for front bumper on the RZR. I also reinforced the composite floor with 3/4" ply and hold downs since the existing floor seemed to flex a bit & did not want to worry about damaging it while hauling rocks etc. I will try to post some pics. The trailer is light weight but towability on trails depends on weight & steepness etc.. The trailer hitch for the RZR is a 2-1/2" lift to tow it level. If you have some of the aftermarket silencer mufflers, utilizing the hitch could be difficult.

Re: Thule tilt bed trailer

Yes indeed it is the "professional". It's been working great for me all summer. I never thought about towing it with the RZR, what a good idea!

I bought a 5' x 10' steel trailer that weights 490 pounds, and can haul 3.500 pounds. Equipped with brakes, it cost several hundred less than the $1,495 mentioned above.
