The New 2015 F450, or the GMC 3500 HD?

The 2015's will be available early 2014.
Ford is boosting their HP significantly, and GM has the new body and interior.
We'll be buying a new Dually then and are still undecided.
Which would you prefer?:

If you're going for the most reliable engine and the most pulling power, you left out the only choice.

On my second 2500HD Denali. Both duramaxs. I'll get a 2015 prolly in late 2015 when they are having lots of rebates and deals on them.

Love(d) them both. Wont ever drive anything else.

That being said, for the serious tower the sportchassis is sweet. Cant beat air breaks and air ride seats and the bigger wheels/tires. But i cant drive that daily.

Friends with the older Ram models like them, friends with the newer don't.
In fact they've all sold the newer Rams already they were that un-happy.

We'll probably go GMC for reliability + ya never need brakes, and the best 4wd system.
The F450 sure has showroom appeal though. They are super nice.
Most the tests we've read in the past suggest FORD over-exaggerates the power. Maybe this increase will bring Ford up to par.

Go test drive a 2013 Laramie Longhorn. Best interior on the market, exhaust brake is amazing.

Re: The New 2015 F450, or the GMC 3500 HD?

I watched the first video only....big difference I saw was in Ford's gearing. They're running a 4.30 rear end, with the Ram running a 4.10 and the Silverado a 3.73.

Ford has always shown to market really well....but, when I've looked at the physical aspects of what they're really marketing, I've never been overly impressed. What does that 4.30 rear end do for fuel economy when not towing? Does it really make that much difference to be a little slower up the hill with 20k #'s behind you if you sacrifice overall driveablility? For someone towing the majority of the time, I can see a benefit...me, not so much.

With Ford, there's always "more than meets the eye" when it comes to their advertising....

Absolutely love my 2012 Ram Cummins. My friend just bought a 13' Cummins and can't stop talking about it. Don't short change yourself by not taking a Ram for a test drive.

I bought a 2013 F250 Platinum and I really like it. I have driven a 2012 Cummins and I didn't care for it. I have the 3.73s in mine and I'm getting 17-22 for fuel mileage. You can barley hear it running when you start it while at idle. I never drove the Chevy or GMC. It's all in what you like and the Platinum was really nice inside.

Re: The New 2015 F450, or the GMC 3500 HD?

As for being in the business in the past for 25 years on almost every level of it and playing with and street racing diesel trucks since 2000 for the overall dependability, ride, performance and depreciation the gm truck is the best bang for the buck! The ford is notorious for building a nice truck that used to be very dependable back in the old 7.3 days. But the EPA and not being able to keep up with the duramax and cummins hp and torque. Ford has been making the public guinea pigs since 2003. They do build a very nice trucks with a lot room and features. They ride phenomenal. Dodge has playing the same game as ford. But on different things. The cummins is a great motor and the running gear is phenomenal but the rest of the truck is the problem. My experience with the dodge and a ton of friends who own them as well as having them in our fleet as well as fords. Everybody drove it and didn't like as compared to gm and ford. My friends that aren't diehard dodge only will tell the truth even though they own one for the motor those guys typically trade yearly. Like I said great motor really good looking truck, ride and drive sucks, dependability outside the motor sucks. I guess the to sum it up for me on the dodge the motor is 500000 mile motor the truck starts falling apart at 50000 miles. That's why I say best truck to be built is a gm with duramax. If you could have truck built the way you want for me it would be the ford truck for the ride comfort drive and room with a cummins motor without all the def exhaust crap and a Allison tranny. But the new body gm will probably help with cab size since it's supposed to be bigger. Just my take on it. You know what they say about opinions.

Re: The New 2015 F450, or the GMC 3500 HD?

I have had really good luck with the RAM's both at work and home (work I drive a LOT, home not very much). I liked the Ford but they wanted 8K more than what I paid for the RAM (both new) for a very similarly equipped truck in 2012. For $1500 I got the 7 year 100K factory ext. warranty that is bumper to bumper and figured I wouldn't worry about it as I am not doing major mods and the engine needs nothing.
My neighbor/friend has a F250 and loves it - seems to do better on diesel than mine and is also has a very nice interior.
As for the GM - when I bought mine I personally didn't care for the interior and the location of the DEF was just plain silly (way to low in my opinion - some of the gas line guys are smashing them up around here). The new body style looks like a great improvement!
Really all 3 are good trucks, they all have their problem areas and all will tow any legal load VERY well. Get what you like best and don't look back

Re: The New 2015 F450, or the GMC 3500 HD?

I've owned Ford diesels since 1996 and this new 6.7 Ford engine (non international, NAVISTAR, etc) is the best yet. It is a beast of a motor towing. Mileage isn't quite what I was hoping for, but it's not completely broken in yet (5k miles). The interior is great and the truck just cruises effortlessly. Very comfortable for long days towing. One plus over GM is the Ford and Dodge still have straight axle front ends. If you are off road any, they are more robust.

All have their strong points, so you really can't go seriously wrong.

Re: The New 2015 F450, or the GMC 3500 HD?

I guess im one of the few on here that still ownes a low milage (82,000) 7.3 F250. I love mine. The ride is no where near as smooth as the new 6.7 250 but I get 25 mpg on the highway and 22 in town if im not stomping throttle. Mine is still running 32 inch tires and is a stock crew cab 4x4 lariat other than straight pipe exhaust and a superchips programmer. Im not a big dodge fan although my wife drives a new jeep. I like the 6.7 but plastic intake plenums on a diesel freak me out. I have noticed that when pulling a 33 foot gooseneck though compared to the 6.7 i can leave one sitting. But with no trailer the 6.7 stomps the crap out of my 7.3. As far as gm goes I will never own another one. I dont care to much for the faulty transfer case bushings in the planetaries that eventually wear a hole in case and starts leaking. Or the trailblazer I had that my wife was hit on the turnpike in and rolled 17 times and the seatbelt broke and airbags never deployed. The fact gm knew there was a problem with that things safety features and did nothing to fix it turned me off of them for life. I used to be a diehard gm fan before that.
