The New 2015 F450, or the GMC 3500 HD?

The 2015's will be available early 2014.
Ford is boosting their HP significantly, and GM has the new body and interior.
We'll be buying a new Dually then and are still undecided.
Which would you prefer?:

I watched the first video only....big difference I saw was in Ford's gearing. They're running a 4.30 rear end, with the Ram running a 4.10 and the Silverado a 3.73.

Ford has always shown to market really well....but, when I've looked at the physical aspects of what they're really marketing, I've never been overly impressed. What does that 4.30 rear end do for fuel economy when not towing? Does it really make that much difference to be a little slower up the hill with 20k #'s behind you if you sacrifice overall driveablility? For someone towing the majority of the time, I can see a benefit...me, not so much.

With Ford, there's always "more than meets the eye" when it comes to their advertising....

its because its an F450, but i agree a 4.10 might be a better option for the F450 IMO.

I have a 2011 F350 4x4 Lariat Dually with the 6.7 and it has only 3.73 gears. its an awesome motor, tons of power, and super quiet. great ride too

I bought a 2013 F250 Platinum and I really like it. I have driven a 2012 Cummins and I didn't care for it. I have the 3.73s in mine and I'm getting 17-22 for fuel mileage. You can barley hear it running when you start it while at idle. I never drove the Chevy or GMC. It's all in what you like and the Platinum was really nice inside.

As for being in the business in the past for 25 years on almost every level of it and playing with and street racing diesel trucks since 2000 for the overall dependability, ride, performance and depreciation the gm truck is the best bang for the buck! The ford is notorious for building a nice truck that used to be very dependable back in the old 7.3 days. But the EPA and not being able to keep up with the duramax and cummins hp and torque. Ford has been making the public guinea pigs since 2003. They do build a very nice trucks with a lot room and features. They ride phenomenal. Dodge has playing the same game as ford. But on different things. The cummins is a great motor and the running gear is phenomenal but the rest of the truck is the problem. My experience with the dodge and a ton of friends who own them as well as having them in our fleet as well as fords. Everybody drove it and didn't like as compared to gm and ford. My friends that aren't diehard dodge only will tell the truth even though they own one for the motor those guys typically trade yearly. Like I said great motor really good looking truck, ride and drive sucks, dependability outside the motor sucks. I guess the to sum it up for me on the dodge the motor is 500000 mile motor the truck starts falling apart at 50000 miles. That's why I say best truck to be built is a gm with duramax. If you could have truck built the way you want for me it would be the ford truck for the ride comfort drive and room with a cummins motor without all the def exhaust crap and a Allison tranny. But the new body gm will probably help with cab size since it's supposed to be bigger. Just my take on it. You know what they say about opinions.

I have had really good luck with the RAM's both at work and home (work I drive a LOT, home not very much). I liked the Ford but they wanted 8K more than what I paid for the RAM (both new) for a very similarly equipped truck in 2012. For $1500 I got the 7 year 100K factory ext. warranty that is bumper to bumper and figured I wouldn't worry about it as I am not doing major mods and the engine needs nothing.
My neighbor/friend has a F250 and loves it - seems to do better on diesel than mine and is also has a very nice interior.
As for the GM - when I bought mine I personally didn't care for the interior and the location of the DEF was just plain silly (way to low in my opinion - some of the gas line guys are smashing them up around here). The new body style looks like a great improvement!
Really all 3 are good trucks, they all have their problem areas and all will tow any legal load VERY well. Get what you like best and don't look back

I've owned Ford diesels since 1996 and this new 6.7 Ford engine (non international, NAVISTAR, etc) is the best yet. It is a beast of a motor towing. Mileage isn't quite what I was hoping for, but it's not completely broken in yet (5k miles). The interior is great and the truck just cruises effortlessly. Very comfortable for long days towing. One plus over GM is the Ford and Dodge still have straight axle front ends. If you are off road any, they are more robust.

All have their strong points, so you really can't go seriously wrong.

I guess im one of the few on here that still ownes a low milage (82,000) 7.3 F250. I love mine. The ride is no where near as smooth as the new 6.7 250 but I get 25 mpg on the highway and 22 in town if im not stomping throttle. Mine is still running 32 inch tires and is a stock crew cab 4x4 lariat other than straight pipe exhaust and a superchips programmer. Im not a big dodge fan although my wife drives a new jeep. I like the 6.7 but plastic intake plenums on a diesel freak me out. I have noticed that when pulling a 33 foot gooseneck though compared to the 6.7 i can leave one sitting. But with no trailer the 6.7 stomps the crap out of my 7.3. As far as gm goes I will never own another one. I dont care to much for the faulty transfer case bushings in the planetaries that eventually wear a hole in case and starts leaking. Or the trailblazer I had that my wife was hit on the turnpike in and rolled 17 times and the seatbelt broke and airbags never deployed. The fact gm knew there was a problem with that things safety features and did nothing to fix it turned me off of them for life. I used to be a diehard gm fan before that.

Chevy. Hands down.

Dodge cant get the epa shit figured out.
Ford cant keep a motor together. With the exception of the 7.3. Had they stuck with that motor it would be a different answer. I have always loved their interiors.

Chevy has the same motor it has had from the beginning. Only improving on it to this day. That tells you something.

ford! I even have an 07 with the dreaded 6.0 and love its power and have had 0 issues, mine is 100% stock minus exhaust, my friend has a new 6.7 and loves it, I have 2 many toys otherwise id upgrade lol

i'd also say go for the ford,i have had two 11's with the 6.7 and they have been perfect. as for the guy claiming his superchips 7.3 will pull like a 6.7... you need to face reality:rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:

i laugh so much because i've got two 7.3s, both swamps tuned and still won't touch the 6.7 in towing abilities.

Im the guy with the 7.3. Will happily put my 7.3 against a 6.7 with 10000 pounds behind it any day. Ive done it several times. Along with my cousin in the oil field whos company upgraded all of their trucks to the 6.7 and granted they work them hard but have had to put transmissions in half of them at 50k miles and injectors and turbos in almost all 24 of them by 100,000 miles. Not to mention fuel mileage. Truck alone at 75 mph I pull 25 mpg and at 45 in town average 19-21 depending on traffic. Keep in mind also that the turbo waste gate actuator is adjustable on the 7.3.

hey i'm not bashing them by any means, i love my two 7.3's but the power just isint there on stock sticks. i think you leaving out some stuff you have done if you leave behind a 6.7 towing 10k :D

to the OP- sorry for mucking you thread up, have any of you read what the changes are for the 15 release of the 6.7 ?

I have a 13 ram laramie with a cummins and love it. I am not brand loyal. I buy what I like best. My last truck was an 07 F250, and the one before that was an 09 2500hd chevy. I hated the Chevy, nothing but issues and the suspension was to soft for heavy towing. The ford was a great truck, and I was dead set on a new F250 but thought I would at least drive the new Ram. It drove better, rode better and had nicer features in the interior. The crew cab is full size with plenty of room in the back seat (more than the chevy but slightly less than the ford). I would say Cummins has the emissions figured out fine. I get better mileage and use less DEF than my cousins 12 Ford. I was never a fan of Dodges but they have really stepped it up in the new trucks.

Its all good. My 02 was custom ordered with 4:10 gears and an overdrive box. The programmer ive got allowed me to hook up a laptop and remap everything. The turbo is spooling 36 pounds at 2500 rpm and im running 32.5 inch tires. Im not dogging the 6.7 its got power. But the 7.3 is proven. Still havent figured out why ford doesnt just reclaim th3 cummins. Peterbuilt owns cummuns anf ford owns peterbuilt so why not stick a cummins in the f series superduty and have truly the best of both worlds. I live the way the f250 looks and feels inside and out. Really wish ford would produce the superchief concept truck. If you havent seen it look it up. Its like owning a rolls royce in an f250 body. Possibly the best looking truck ive ever seen.

I have an 04-250 with 155K on it. Seems to have a little turbo lag. I have had EGR problems, turbo seized and blew out the intercooler at 85K. Wasn't looking for a new truck but came across a 2013 Duramax Z71 4x4 with 7K on it for $45k. Couldn't pass it up. Always was a Ford man---till now. I am with the previous post---give me a ford with the duramax or cummins and the allison and you would never get me out of them.

I'll throw my 2 cents in, I had a 08 ford f250 6.4 and I can understand why guys bash the power strokes but the new 6.7 is a different animal. I only kept the 6.4 for about 9 months and sold it. Now the 2011 6.7 I have is a true pulling machine. From the outside design I actually think the ford and GM both look great. The interior of the Ford is top notch in my opinion. I've never seen a dodge interior that impressed me personally. I think Ford and GM Denali would be my first two picks as they r very plush. Then the Chevy and the dodge last. I think the dodge trucks are great quality mechanically (motor and transmission) but everyone I know that has them its like the trucks are falling apart around the motor and transmission.

I bought a new 2012 F350 Lariat. And now I regret it. Wish I would have waited for the 2014 or newer 2015 Dodge. Fords are nothing like the brand loyal people rave they are.

The power is less then exciting. It pulls well from a dig but it reminds me of the ole 7.3 on the highway. A bit of dog with a load and trying to pass. It just isn't there. Not for what the advertised numbers are.

Ford has become very cheap in my opinion. Look at the King Ranch package now. Up until 2010 it was decent distressed saddle leather with captain seats in the rear. Now its just the same ole cheap leather that is used with the Lariats and a hideous brown plastic dash. My pickup only has 10k miles on it and its got more squeaks then a mouse caught in a trap.

Use to love GM vehicles. Since my wife got her 2011 Tahoe. I have sense changed my mind on that. Very cheaply built vehicle. And I still can not get around a IFS on a 2500 or 3500. Just doesnt make sense as those front ends struggle to make it to 100k miles without needing work.

I suppose if your are one of the few that have not had issues with the HEUI system on the 7.3 then good for you. But HEUI is sorry system that should have never been used on a engine. The 7.3 doesn't make enough power to get a turtle excited much less be able to break something.

People forget that reliability is associated with power. Little power much more reliable, big power reliability drops off. Sad to say that even manufacturers are seeing this right off the production floor.

Yea 4:30s wasn't totally fair , but wasn't that test suppose to be the best each one has to offer towing package wise? Granted every test out there is 99% of the time biased one direction or the other. Like last years version of this when the gm was minutes ahead ? All that was , is a well thought out strategical win, by finding the weakest point of the 6.7s current design- a small charger and the power falling off above 2900 rpm like it's tuned to do. In theory the bigger turbo for 15 should fix that. Who really knows though. I will say from my experience with my personal truck - a 2011 f350 dually, I am more than happy with it and it's pulling abilities.
