Trailer tires/ mobile home rims

I wasn't sure where to post this. I just bought a 20' gooseneck trailer that uses mobile home axles. I'm trying to figure out the best way to put a "road" worthy tire on it. I don't want to do an axle swap. I have found a conversion kit on eBay to allow a 6 lug rim to be installed. However, I'm trying to save the cash and just put tires on it and sandblast/paint the existing rims.

What have you guys done in the past? Here is a pic of the trailer and rims. Click image for larger version

In the long run you may be better off converting the hubs. That 14.5 is a hard tire to find if your on the road and need to replace one. I would definitely be carrying a spare, if not two if you stick with that tire/rim combo.

Agreed, Change the hubs to a 16.5 six or eight lug and be done with it. You can change them out for not alot of $$$

Around here you can get the wheel and tire from the mobile home dealer for like 50 bucks. Last I heard. How much weight you going to carry?

I bought the gooseneck to carry 2 rzr's. I may end up hauling more a tractor, car or something like that but for the most part just a few rzr's.

Re: Trailer tires/ mobile home rims

I see several trailers around using mobile home axles. I would be sure to carry me couple of spares. Some tire shops may not have them in stock.

Trailer tires/ mobile home rims

One tire that came on it is different and is actually a mobile home tire. The others are a trailer tire but don't say mobile home use only. They actually look real good. I think I am going to replace the mismatch trailer tire and get another spare and just run it a little while. If I keep the trailer for a little while then ill do the hub swap.

Re: Trailer tires/ mobile home rims

I have a mobile home axel under one of my trailers and my local tire dealer found some used 14" wheels with the 6 lug pattern, so I have no problem finding tires for it. But I notice now you have the wide 5 pattern so it may be harder to find other wheels for it.
