Pissed Carl's Cycle Fox Shock issue! Opinions

I bought I set of Fox 2.0 HD shocks from Carl's Cycle. For those that don't know, they are custom vavled etc. specifically for the rzr (this set is for a 50" which I own).

I bolted the fronts up, no issue but the rears I have a huge problem. The shock is longer than the travel of the arm . Of course it's no problem compressing the shock and installing it, BUT.....what happens when the back end lifts off the ground and the shock trys the slam the arm down past critical angle?

How can they design and sell so many of these with this issue and no one has a problem? Why hasn't the internet blown up with snapped axles, CVs etc because of this? If I need limit straps, why weren't they supplied or even in the directions or install notes? After all, the shocks are what limits travel at the moment but in this case the CV it's self is going to be trying to limit the travel!!! WTF

Did anyone else have these issues? What did you do about it?

Yes, I plan to call Fox and/or Carl's and raise these questions. Thoughts please.

You've already posted the BEST answer I thought of... Fox will be able to answer all your questions for sure...

Have you considered getting Carls on the phone and asking all of these questions, or simply asking if there was a mistake?

As I have stated, I will do that when they open in 3 minutes. I thought there was a chance someone else has bought these before and asked these same questions.

I am perturbed, not stupid.

I just got off the phone with them. They said "they are a little longer than the stockers, it's perfectly normal to compress the shock or push the a arm down really hard to get them installed. We haven't had any issues to date"

I am still very skeptical but I suppose I will take their word for it . It doesn't make any sense to me though.

I still would like to hear from people who have installed and ran this setup, which was the real point of this thread.

Did you have to compress the rear shocks to install? Have you had any issues? With or without sway bars etc. Thanks

Well, I don't know at what point you call it "binding" but with the arm hanging you can turn the hub, with the shock installed you still can but it's extremely difficult. I'm probably going to run some limit straps just because it's stressing me out lol.

Re: Carl's Cycle Fox Shock issue! Opinions

I realize this maybe slghtly different but when I put Elka's on my 800. I had the same issue. At full droop on my old 800 I had a little bind, it took two hands to turn the tire. That 800 has 5k+ miles on it with no issues. I was going to pu limit straps on it but I got distracted by more important things like billet iphone mount and lit whips, you know all the really important stuff.
I suppose you could put a stock shock back on and do the same droop test and compare?

Re: Carl's Cycle Fox Shock issue! Opinions

The parts manager, Chris, called me back and assured me it was normal and he has little doubt I would be happy. He said he was going to call me next week to see how the riding went this weekend.

All in all with that kind of customer service I think I'm in pretty good hands. I'll hit the trail like a bat outta hell and see what happens.

I'll let you guys know the results.

Interesting trend as I am thinking of getting some of these shocks as well. Please let us know how it works out of if any problems arise. Have fun on your test ride sessions!

If not already done...back off on the preload adjustment ALL the way.

Idaho flag Re: Carl's Cycle Fox Shock issue! Opinions

I have ran and tested Carl's Cycle Fox shocks for many years. They are by far one of the best folks for re-valving and fitting shocks. They are the leader hands down in the snowmobile industry for Fox Shocks. They sell shocks all over the world. No lie. Call Fox direct and they will tell you about Carl's and Jack Struthers the owner. They live up to their reputation.

I have ran their Fox shocks since 2008 on RZR's. The ones you have are products of hours of testing. Just push the rear arms down and bolt them in. Their will be no CV bind once you get it on the ground. Set them up the way Chris tells you and go drive it.

When the XP came out we tested and changed the shock valving 16 times on both ends before Jack the owner was satisfied. He does most of the testing himself. He also sponsored a couple guys on the WORCS series this past year and they did very good. You can look them up on the Worcs site. Todd Seaver and Jake Greco.

They don't just build them on a wood bench in the middle of a shop. They have a very clean, sealed off room with all the tools it takes to do the job.

I don't work for them, I am just a very satisfied customer.

Good luck and no worries.
