Wheel Alignment

Hey guys I just installed a Rubberdown 2" lift kit and notice that the front looks toe out somewhat. Should I try to correct this? If so whats the best way?

Thanks
Jimmy

Re: Wheel Alignment

I run a grade string all the way around the car at center of the wheel, and adjust the tie rods evenly to get from 1/8" toe in to 1/8" toe out. If you use 4 wheel drive more, toe it out. if your more on hard pack or roading toe it in.

Re: Wheel Alignment

I've also seen guys get a tape measure refill and glue it to a strip of aluminum with the overall length wider than the wheels (around 70 inches I think).
Lift the front tires off the ground.
They then have a pointer attached to a heavy weight which sits on the ground with the pointer touching the front of the tire (center of the tread).
You then spin the tire and spray white paint at the center of the tireand you will see your line around the entire tire.
They lowered it, pushed the suspension, rolled it back and forth etc.
Took their measurement in the front, measurement in the rear and adjusted accoordingly.
They used 1/8 open at the rear
Be sure to roll the vehicle back and forth after adjusting the tie rods so the tires sit "normal". Something you can't really do with the twine/rope etc. wrapped around all four tires.
Then again, it probably doesn't need to be that acurate??

Re: Wheel Alignment

rzrider, the tires have a seam in the middle, why paint em. the other thing is you need the suspension at ride height for proper adjustment. the rope thing also gives you a chance to see the rear toe in. This is what helps push the car straight. If we run a race that we need to use 4whl dr. then we go zero to 1/16t toed out to make the front axle work correctly

No seam if the tires are worn.
If I wasn't clear let me say...After you mark the tires you lower the RZR back on the ground push on the suspension and then rock it back and forth so the suspension "settles".
At my dealership we use the rope technique, I was just throwing out an option I've seen used.

Re: Wheel Alignment

I've taken a long straight edge and blocked it up so it touches both front and rear tire about midway up from the floor. I'm ass-u-me'ing there's no toe in the rear tire as I align the straightedge to contact it front & back & sight the front tire to be parallel. This doesn't work so good if your offsets are different F & R.

I never thought about the paint stripe (or seam) idea. I'll have to try this next time.

I can get my hands on a set of swivel plates at work. I should bring them home & see if the Rzr has any "Ackerman" in the steering geometry. Probably does--it turns great.
