HL Springs question
Hey guys, new here! I will probably be picking up a 09 Rzr at the end of the month. Cant wait. I will be trading in my 08 Sportsman 800 touring. I will be keeping my black 12" SS108 with 26" terracross tires on em, and putting those on my Rzr. From what i understand i shouldnt have any problem, they are 4+3 offset all the way around. If at all, i may just have to grind a little around the motor mount, correct?
Anyways, my main question is this. My wife and I ride mostly trails, averaging about 8mph, we take er nice and easy. It is rocky areas, Ozark mountains! Nothing really extreme, just rocks all over. But i want to add some skid plates and bring up the ground clearance a little. I am debating on doing HL springs, or rubberdown 2" lift, or both. I dont want it to be TOO tippy, so is there one i should go with over the other, or just do both? I should be a little bit wider with the different wheels and tires, so that should help.... Also when people are doing the HL springs, is everyone doing front AND rear, or are ppl just doing the front springs. I dont want it to look funny and point towards the sky. I would like to maintain a nice smooth, soft ride. So what do you guys suggest? Thanks guys, Trevor BTW rzrforums,

Re: HL Springs question
I'm not sure about that wheel offset, at worst you may need to run spacers.
We've got a simple 2in lift that will bring you up enough to clear the rocks and a full belly skid for the ones you catch on. You should also take a look at the a-arm protection, the rocks in that area are pretty bad(we were in the Ozarks about a month ago!). |

Re: HL Springs question
boy i sure figured i would have gotten more response from you guys. Is there some place better to post this topic? Surely with all the people running this combo, some one could answer my question.

Re: HL Springs question
Ok, ss112 wheels with the wide offset or polaris crushers is all you can use without spacers if you run a 26 or bigger tire. You can run 12'' or 14'' of about any combination with spacers 1.5 or 2.00. The rear motor mount is what hits without them.

Re: HL Springs question
as far as i can tell, ITP only makes the 12" ss108 in one offset for polaris, rzr or not. I have read of ppl running the same combo as myself without any problems and no spacers, but i am unable to confirm the offset on their wheels. But like i said, according to ITPs spreadsheet with all their part numbers, wheels, combos, etc etc, they only off the 12" in 4+3 offset....

Re: HL Springs question
i run 2" hl lift and springs all the way around the ride is great and the springs added about 3/4" of clearance turned all the way down..you can turn up the shocks to highest setting for another 1" or so...i ride mtns too..i would go with wheel spacers if you have to do alot of side hill runs if not dont bother the rzr doesnt feel too tippy also i would leave rear sway bar on and take the front ones off

Re: HL Springs question
well im trying to stay away from spacers, i need to stay as narrow as possible for the trails here. If the HL springs and 2" lift will keep the ride close to as good as it is stock, then i would love that. Dont want it to be too harsh.

Re: HL Springs question
What is the reason for removing the front swaybar?

Re: HL Springs question
gives the suspension a little bit more flex and makes the ride a little softer and smoother, however can have negative affects on high speed cornering and stability

Re: HL Springs question
Its going to be hard to get all that you want, 2'' lift, stiff springs soft ride and no spacers, heres the issue, the rear motormount and frame will rub with almost any wheel and 26'' or larger tire unless you get it away from it with spacers or the wide offset which is 3-5 and only comes in a ss112 or the polaris rock crusher this will put you at 57" same as using a 4-3 and a 2'' spacer. if you dont lift it you can grind down the edge of the frame enough to get by with a 4-3 offset and 26'' tire, the lift is what pulls the rearend in closer. 50" wide stock is only about 49 with the lift. Look on PRC and there is dozens of topics on this on what works and what wont.

Re: HL Springs question
removing front sway bars also gives the front suspension more travel meaning you can flex it out more with tires still touching ground. i run 14 ss212 with 27 mudlites with 1.5" wheel spacers. i still get rubbing when turning deep while in a bind but nothing serious. my buddy runs 27" ml on ss112 with hl springs turned all the way up. its stiff but we mostly run about 8mph so no hard cornering. the more clearance the better where i am at due to creek beds and deep ruts. just depends on what kind of trails you ride

Re: HL Springs question
so do the tires rub the motor mount on the sidewall of the tires or on the front tread of the tires? Stock rear wheels are 6+2 offset correct? So 4+3 would be moving the wheels out 2 inches but i bet the Terracross tires are a bit wider, so im probably only moving them out 1/2-1" after the wider tires are factored in.
Also the terracross tires definitely dont measure the full 26" tall, hopefully that will help some. Im looking at PRC right now, ive been looking for someone who has the same combo to see if they did have problems... Thats the only thing i dislike about the Rzr, is in order to put any worthy tires on it, you have to widen it, also the same for wanting to get any ground clearance and still be stable... |

Re: HL Springs question
my rear tire rubbed motor mount without spacer..my buddies with 112's dont rub..my only rubbing is in the front fender well left of the brake pedal
