Sway Bar (To Disconnect or Not) that is the question
Howdy Guys,
Just wanted to get your thoughts and ideas on removing the sway-bar(s), I searched the threads but didn't find to much info so sorry if I over looked any info that may have already been posted on this subject.
I think I understand the purpose of the sway-bars and since my style/terrain of riding is mostly large rocks and off camber hill climbs opposed too open flat areas. Where the terrain dictates the speed to under 20-mph I thought I might see more wheel articulation and a smoother ride. Am I correct in my assumption would I see more benefits from removing the sway-bars than negatives?
Thanks Guys
Jimmy

Re: Sway Bar (To Disconnect or Not) that is the question
I've read several posts (elsewhere) from guys who disconnected their front links. I don't think anyone reconnected them.
Articulation should greatly improve. If you leave the rear one connected you still might not get much body roll in cornering. Let us know...

I had my front disconnected for the same reason but reconnected it when I put a 2" lift on.

For the type of riding you are doing, I would definately unhook the front bar. Try it like that and see what you think. I haven't unhooked the rear bar, but I'm planning to for my next outing.

Re: Sway Bar (To Disconnect or Not) that is the question
I used the Rubberdown 2" lift. It is pretty good. A couple items I would change on it but it is better than some out there. It is on sale until Christmas for $165 shipped. Prolift out of Michigan looks good to. The extra 2" helped a lot this last week camping. My friend on a sportsman kept trying to lead me places to get me stuck but could not(he has RZR envy). Then I took him to the mill at Martinez Canyon.

Re: Sway Bar (To Disconnect or Not) that is the question
I've thought about taking my front off. All you need to do is remove one linkage to see if you like it or not. Removing the front (I know you said you're below 20mph) allows the outside front tire to sink down more on cornering. The important part of that is letting the inside rear unload, which makes the car turn better. (more oversteer) I used to race go carts, and I've worked on a sprint car pit crew. Everything you adjust effects the opposite diagonal corner.
I suck and explaining in written form, but to sum it up here goes. Take of the front to make the steering more responsive. Take off the rear to make it push more. Either or both will ride better in a straight line.

Re: Sway Bar (To Disconnect or Not) that is the question
Thanks Cooter and all. Thanks for the explanation Cooter, it's funny you mention the ability to turn better because I had a Grizzly a few years back and when I removed the sway-bars I noticed it would turn sharper but there was also a lot of lean and dive.
Cooter I understand that if I remove the front the RZR will steer sharper and if I remove the rear and leave the front it will push more, so if I remove both will this counter react each?
Either way it sounds like the type of riding and terrain I'm on I better off removing both?
Thanks
Jimmy

Re: Sway Bar (To Disconnect or Not) that is the question
Do both and let us know.
I run my King Quad with no sway bar. One of the best(and cheapest) mods I've done.

I'm not sure if removing both would counteract eachother. There's quite a bit more weight on the rear end. I'm going to try the front next ride. It only takes a few minutes to remove one side.

I'd disable the front, run it and see what you think. Then remove the rears and let us know what you do and don't like so we don't have to.

Re: Sway Bar (To Disconnect or Not) that is the question
I did remove the front swaybar link like you guys suggested for my type of riding, WOW nice change. By the way I have the front pre-load adjusters set to the max and the rear at plus 2. Now I can only wonder if I remove the rear swaybar and add a set of nice shocks how it will do. Thanks for the info guys.

Re: Sway Bar (To Disconnect or Not) that is the question
I have discounted the front sway bar on my RZR. It works great for both rock crawling and it rides smoother over the whoops. I think the rear sway bar would be a little to much.

Re: Sway Bar (To Disconnect or Not) that is the question
Hey guys, I run a two inch h/l kit and the stiffer springs and 29.5 tires and i can only wonder if the removal of the front sway bar would greatly decrease the life of my stock axels. With just the lift the axels are already at a pretty steep angle

Re: Sway Bar (To Disconnect or Not) that is the question
The sway bar should have nothing to do with maximum wheel travel. With the stiffer springs, you should try going disconnected.
IMO, sway bars are independent suspension killers.
