Afraid to cut off your CVT spacer?

I was worried I might cause damage to the shaft of the primary clutch by trying to chop the spacer off with a chisel. And I didn't really want to remove & open the clutch either. (I briefly tried but it needs a little motivation to release from the splines)
So I'm looking at that little plastic spacer & I thought why not melt through it? I took a piece of broken hacksaw blade & slipped a piece of rubber hose over one end to keep from getting burned. Heat up the end til it glowed red & pushed it through the spacer. Repeat on other side of spacer. Lift out pieces. Easy-peazy.

This is the spacer that gets you the extra 5 to 6 mph when removed?

Is it hard to take the CVT cover off? It just looks bigger than the hole, even with the seat crossbar taken out.

Re: Afraid to cut off your CVT spacer?

Stop freaking out over how to remove the speed limit bushing and spend about two minuntes to remove it the right way and you will have it you wount to reinstall it, also you will not damage your clutch!!

Very simple to remove.
1-after removing pvt cover mark the front cover fo the clutch so it can be reinstalled it the same position. (The clutch is ballenanced as a unit)

2-Remove the center bolt from clutch.

3- Remove the six bolts around the front cover in a crisscross pattern.
(The cover has very light spring pressure on it)

4- Remove speed limiter bushing and reassemble clutch in reverse order using the line up marks you made at the start.

It's tight but you can wiggle it out without removing anything more than the bar. I spent more time trying to get the locknuts off that hold the bar in place. They're in a real tight spot. As soon as I can locate them I'll replace the nuts with 3/8-16 U-clip nuts so I won't need to try to hold it from spinning.

I would think twice about the clip on locknuts, they tend to be about half the thickness as the factory nut with half the threads. Your seats and belts are held in by the fastners.
