Springs?

I have a +4 LT kit and thought I could get away with running the HL springs instead of getting new shocks. It works but it is not ideal, I bottom out alot. I was looking around and Many of the aftermarket shocks are 275-300 lbs and that doesn't seem like enough. The HL springs have to be close to that, they say they are 50lbs over stock, but what is stock?
I need to know how much spring I need on a shock to run the +4 lt kit and up to 350lbs of cab weight.

I know money may be an issue but ELKA makes a shock made spacifically for the 4+ kit. It will give you more travel than a stock replacement shock. I have sold them to customers and they love them.
As far as your question 275 to 300 really should work with the proper dampning in the shock.

Re: Springs?

The spring is not the problem with the stock shocks. The stock shocks suck. You can put the 375lb springs on but you still have a crappy shock with a heavier spring. The Elka res shsocks all the way around rock on the MTS kits.

Re: Springs?

Yes the shocks will never work correctly. I have the DFR +4 kit with Fox shocks (19" F/R) and I tried the kits standard rear 300lb springs then 350s then finally happy with 400lb springs. I have alot of added weight with the cage, rear seat, rear bumper etc. The spings the kit came with for the front are 200lbs and they have been fine. So now I'm 200lb & 400lb F/R. Spring weights are mostly to set your ride height/sag. I read up alot from rhinoforums.net to figure out what I should go with. I did not re-vale my shocks and I don't think I need to. I'm happy with my heavy pig!!!

BTW my cab weight is 400lbs (260 & 130) plus the girls about 80lbs then the added cage and rear bumper 150-200 lbs plus the rear seat 70lbs.

I encourage you to pony up and buy shocks. Somebody step up here "Venders" and hook the kid up.... what $1600 shipped???

Re: Springs?

I appreciate the info from you all, BigSilly thanks for prodding the vendors on my behalf.

Am I hearing that ELKA makes a longer than stock shock specifically made for the +4 MTS Kits? If so can anyone get me a part number?
Thanks all

Re: Springs?

I have the +4 kit and Elka Shocks. I can't seem to get it working right. The ride is rougher and I still bottom out. Anyone know how to read the paint codes on elka springs? (black springs, blue blue red) ???

Re: Springs?

you have to play with the dampening as well as the rebound...also try to warm the shocks up before pounding on them....what set up do you have...
