Riding Utah
We are planning to do some riding in utah this summer. Does anyone have any spots they would recommend? We cant decide between Rubys Inn in Bryce Canyon or Candy Mountain Resort in Marysvale. Any information would help.
Thanks

Re: Riding Utah
Those places sound pretty good to go see cool stuff but Im not sure what the riding is like. My favorite riding places are Moab, and Little sahara sand dunes.

Re: Riding Utah
I'd second Moab & Little Sahara. Also add in there Coral Pink & maybe Sand Hollow.

Re: Riding Utah
Ruby's Inn is not a good place to ride from for RIDING, we have been there, great place if Bryce Canyon is your destination, an amazing lodge.
You can ride from the campground OUTSIDE of Bryce Canyon, there are some good ROADS, not trails and the scenery is nice.
We went to Marysvale and stayed at a campground in town past the Big Rock Candy Mountain campground and road some of the Piute Trail (a must do)
on our way down to New Mexico this year and stopped in Moab (another must do)
on the way back. Then turned around and went to Monticello some couple hours south to do race support for our "kids" as we call them as we are near geezers in age difference.
We do a trip nearly every year to NM and alter the route to take in the different fun stuff.
If asked I will post a few slideshows from Moab, Marysvale and I might have some Bryce stuff.

Re: Riding Utah
Pink Coral sand dunes are worth the trip just for the color of the sand.
We drove through there on one of our trip without our quads, we were hauling back stuff from a visit to a family farm. Looked like a fun place.

Re: Riding Utah
Try Lizzy and Charlie's R.V. Park in Marysvale. They are very ATV friendly and just all around extremely friendly. Great trail access a small market and restaurant. I have never stayed at Big Rock Candy Mountain before but the campground looks nice and is close to the river. As I remember the main trail up from Big Rock is basically an ATV trail called Dear Creek Run and I don't know if they allow Razors on that trail. Their restaurant there has great food with goooood Rib Eye Steaks. Another place you may consider is The KOA campground in Richfield (about a half hour by vehicle on the highway from Marysvale). They have new owners now and are ATV friendly. Richfield has all the things you would expect, Walmart, KMart, Pizza Hut and a motorcycle dealer / repair shop with reasonable rates. Many of the main trails are accessable from Richfield some with a small drive involved on the UTV but the town is ATV/UTV friendly as is all the other towns in the area(you don't have to be street legal just safe, courteous and sane). Sorry if I sound like the Chamber of Commerce but I love riding up there!

Re: Riding Utah
If you are pulling a travel trailer you can stay near Bryce Canyon and ride the Freemont Trail System. This will take you to many wonderful vistas and the trail system is taylored for ATVs and UTVs 52" or less. The Piute Trail System is great as well. (hundreds of miles of trails!) Another of my favorites is the Arapeen Trail System a little farther north in central utah. This one takes you to lots of high mountain lakes with great fishing, beautiful mountain vistas and lots of fresh air!
None of these trail systems provide a real challenge, but for someone who rides for the scenery and not for the challenge they are great!

Re: Riding Utah
I have stayed at Rubys and ridden right form their parking lot.
They have a guide service as well.
The Paunsugunt Plateau is the huge riding area right behind
Bryce canyon and the riding is fantastic. You can ride all the way from Rubys to the San Rafael Swell, or to lake Powell, or to Cedar Breaks, or up to the Paiute Trail.
No place on earth has that much riding.
ATVUtah.com forums are the authority on Utah riding.
Anything you want to know just ask and several experts will answer.

Re: Riding Utah
Is there a season for riding in Moab? I've been wanting to go, but I'm not sure what time of the year is the best for riding.

I am from Saint George, Utah, and I would stay at Marysvale because the trail system has more places to ride too. You are at one of the best trails in the USA, (piute atv trail). I hope this helps you out.

Re: Riding Utah
moab riding season is RIGHT NOW. It gets a little warm in the middle of summer (july august) and cold in the winter, so anytime spring or fall is great. The UTV Rally is set at the PERFECT time for weather.

Re: Riding Utah
we went to marysvale last year for a long weekend and had a blast, Lots of riding in any direction. we rode from marysvale up to big johns flat on Beaver mountain. Our elvation at big johns flat was roughly 12000 ft and you could see for miles and miles from there.
