Do you go to White Knuckle?

Hello,

Been to windrock twice, but that has been my only southern wheeling. I love the idea of white knuckle, because it sounds like trail riding is still totally available, but you also have the concerts and excitement of larger groups at night.

Three questions. Do you even go to the white knuckle event? Would you go to white knuckle as your first trip to brimstone? And how is the camping/cabin situation? I would be coming from central Illinois, and we are thinking of renting a cabin at the brimstone campground if possible. That or trails end. We normally tent camp, but are thinking about splurging this time lol.

Let me know what you think guys.

Thanks!

Re: Do you go to White Knuckle?

The White Knuckle event was my first trip to Brimstone and I had a blast, still plenty of time to trail ride too. It's very well organized and the maps are pretty good also. As far as cabins go for event weekends, they are rented out a year in advance as people are checking out. Good luck and keep the rubber down.

I go. Anytime you can spend a few days at brimstone is worth it, even if it isa little crowded. You won't get a cabin or stay in the campground with hookups. They probably do still have camping available, I would check with trailsend campground. Great people to deal with. I got lucky and did get a cabin but it was a newly built one.

Re: Do you go to White Knuckle?

I'm not sure If I'll make it this time, we got a cabin at Windrock for the spring jam. Gonna try to make it, but don't know if I can swing two trips that close together. If not I'll definitely be at KOTM in the fall.

Re: Do you go to White Knuckle?

Adam
Rob here, we are going to the White Knuckle Event and already have a camp spot in the overflow camping at trails end and we are on the waiting list for a spot with hookups. We bought a 40' diesel pusher motor home with a 7.5 kw quiet diesel gen set so hook ups are not required. You are more than welcome to set your tent up at our base camp and use what ever elec you need along with our rest room and shower facilities. It looks like it will just be Keena, Myself and the 2 grand kids with a good chance of chad coming. We will be bringing my S and the wifes XP along with the 170 and Chad's Canned Ham if he comes. We are leaving on Wed evening after work (will probably stop and sleep at a Walmart) and arrive early on Thursday. This will give us at least a day of riding without a crowd, our plans are to leave for home on Monday after we get up and around. Let me know if your interested

Rob

Re: Do you go to White Knuckle?

Rob,

Thanks for the offer! That is a heck of a deal. I can't seem to get anyone around here to want to do anything, so it would only be Lindsay and I. I will definitely keep it in mind. We are debating on going there when it is crowded, or waiting to go when it is calmer. I want to hit up an event this year, but I am not sure I want a 20,000 person event to be my first one with atv's lol.

As far as amenities on-site go, how good do the restrooms get maintained, and are they frequently available throughout the event area and campgrounds? I have been to mud bogs where the restrooms get destroyed, but the events weren't as well regulated either.

Re: Do you go to White Knuckle?

Not sure about the campground but if its like everything else there the will bee well kept. On top if the mountain where the event is hr they have a bunch of porta pottys that were clean when we went ti yhe sidexside event 2 years ago. As for as the crowd goes with 300 milesof trails it is not as crowded as you would think. If chad does not go we have an extra bed for you and Lindsy if you wanted it

Trailsend has a good facility and last year they had a rubber duckie shower to help with overflow. To my knowledge brimstone campgrounds does not have bathroom or showering facilities. Thing may have changed in the last month or they could have something being planned though, cant really say on that.

Even if you go there for the event when it's "crowded"... it's not crowded. I have been to Brimstone a few time, including for the SxS Roundup, and the trails are still very open. Go a day early or stay a day late and you won't see anyone on the trails. Also, do one of the free guided rides on Saturday morning, they don't get a lot of people, and the guides are great and really know the area. As stated by everyone else here, any trip to Brimstone is a good one. The event is well organized, and the staff are amazing.

You definitely won't get a cabin. I have been on the waiting list for over a year now. Once you have a cabin, you have first crack at it for the next year. But the overflow campground is pretty good, right on the trail head, and all grass. Your buddy's offer should solidify the deal for you. If you don't take him up on it, you are making a huge mistake. IMHO

There aren't many hotels around. I know of one in Huntsville and a friend told me last week that it was booked. You'd probably be looking at a 30 drive in but would be worth it. They do have overflow camping if you have a RV or tent though.

Re: Do you go to White Knuckle?

Yeah, there is only one hotel close. but usually books early. I have gone on the waiting list for the hotel, and gotten in, so it is probably worth calling them.
