Seatbelt Alert!!!!!

For anyone who plans on changing their seatbelts out and putting in harnesses I will give you a word of caution, DO NOT REMOVE THEM AND LET THEM ROLL UP!!! I removed mine because I had some harnesses coming in and when the shipment was late, I decided to bolt in my old belts so I could go riding. When I tried to pull them out, as they had retracted, the inertia locks were jammed and they would not pull out. I called the dealer and they did not know what to do so they called the "dealer support line" and they were told I would have to buy new belts. Apparently the belts are not designed in such a way that you can unlock the inertia locks once they set when retracted fully. (I disassembled mine and found the springs to be weak in them, thus causing them not to unlock.) Anyway, I dropped them off at the dealer and they are going to file a warranty claim on them. Whether or not Polaris replaces them is another thing entirely.

Re: Seatbelt Alert!!!!!

Are you saying letting the retractor wind in that extra couple feet of shoulder strap jammed the retractor?? That's ridiculous and definitely should be covered. You would cause the same "damage" by unbolting the hanger from the rollbar and letting it wind in...for example if you needed to remove the rollbar for some reason.

Re: Seatbelt Alert!!!!!

That's precisely what I'm saying. I still have not heard anything from Polaris on the matter.

Re: Seatbelt Alert!!!!!

You probably won't hear a peep from Polaris. They don't seem to be very responsive to customers.

I've already replaced my belts with 4-point harnesses and for $44 each I feel it's cheap insurance. I've read several complaints about the retractors jamming when they get dirty. I KNOW mine will be in water & mud

Re: Seatbelt Alert!!!!!

I was able to pick up a set of 4-point harnesses and put them in. I actually did it before taking the "defective" belts back to the dealership. For me, it's the principle of the matter. I'm just looking for Polaris to do the right thing on this one.

WescoPerformance Seat Belts

The correct one is 50521. When you call make sure you specify you want the "pull down" adjustment. That's so the shoulder straps are adjusted by tugging down instead of up (why would anyone want to pull UP?)
You also need to tell them whether you want 2 shoulder straps that can be wrapped around the roll bar, or sewn into a "Y" which can be bolted to the frame behind the seat. IF you look close at the picture you can see both types.

I went into more detail in my post in the PRC forum:
PRC Forum - Mounting harnesses (LONG post, with pix)

Hope this helps.

Re: Seatbelt Alert!!!!!

Great information. I changed mine to a 3 inch with pads sewn on. They don't cun in to you. I have long hair and it gets caught in the removeable pads. We sell all our Ranger cages with the 4 point crow seat belts, and sugest replacing the Rzr stock seat belts. There are lots of great Mfg out there. We changed our seats to suspension also.Home Page

Re: Seatbelt Alert!!!!!

Switched out the stockers to DJ Safety 4 points. They are padded and very comfortable, on the downside, they take a bit longer to get into then the stockers, and are a bit of work to adjust for riders of various sizes. All in all though, worth the piece of mind, safety, and comfort.....

Re: Seatbelt Alert!!!!!

There was another member who said the same thing before the forum went through it's latest update. And Polaris will not kick in to replace removed safety components. If you piss of your dealer, they do have the authority to void the vehicles warrenty.
