Pulled my primary off and yup! The three bolts behind it were loose! I could have taken all three out with a nut driver. I red loctite them and tightened em up. Is this all everybody is doing? Is it good enough? And also, can anyone tell me the torque spec on the primary bolt? I put blue loctite on that too.
I recal torquing my primary to I think? 95ftlb. I think? Maybe sombody sure will chime in.
That's the way mine were too. Red locktite them snug em up and forget about them. There was some stuff on the threads. It was like grease. That's great you checked em.
It appeared to have loctite on one. Maybe. Glad I finally pulled the trigger on the clutch tool. It saved me prob 3 weeks of down time when they finally fell out and destroyed the clutches. I still have warranty, but the down time would suck! It cost me 50$ a little sweat and only couple drops of blood lol!
I need to check mine since my 2017 1k has a 2016 motor in it
What puller did you get?
EPI or SLP?
I read about the "gold" puller is better than the "black"???
I spent the past two days trying to get the primary off. It bent the puller. Then I made my own on my lathe out of a grade 8 bolt, it bent that. Then I tried the water method for two days, probably 20 times. Didn't work. I finally gave up.
do you have a good air gun? I don't. So put my breaker bar on the puller then smacked it with hammer a few times. Then hit the end of the puller a few times. Then I got pissed and put a block of wood between clutch and frame then put a cheater bar on it. It finally popped loose. With my sleds in the past I could just hit the puller with a good air gun and they would pop off easily. If you bent the puller I'm sure you put some serious pressure on it. Guess I got lucky for once.
I'm from the Midwest and pulled clutches on sleds all the time without a problem
I even changed springs and ground my own weights
Seems to be a big deal now with everything
I tried everything to get mine off way back also and failed. Impact, hammer, long cheaper and hammer, beat the crap out of pulling tool, bent pulling tool. I think I'm going to try again before my next ride just for peace of mind. Thinking about trying it while it is hot next time.
Use the water Method but you NEED to keep the BELT INSTALLED because it will pop hard when it comes off. This the only way mine will come off. I had to lean the RZR on it's side I had to go way past just jacking it up I had to push it over onto a stand I made. The good thing is you can use your bent puller cut the end off use 3 times the amount of teflon tape than you would normaly use.
A few of us got 2016 motors in their 2017 so I need to check mine
If you have the old style cam tensioner then you have the 2016 motor
I'll never trust another word from Polaris
I bent a black puller. Got a gold one, felt like I was beating the crap out of everything, left the puller in with tension on it for several days and it wouldn't come off...was about to give up. Finally I tightened the puller again and with a rubber mallet, I hit the clutch in a manner that would try to make it spin, and it came off... Did 2 more 16 turbos this way also. I think they tightened them too much from the factory because after I torqued mine to the proper amount, it comes off fairly easy now
2016 xpt with 400 miles on it. two of the three bots were hand loose. the primary bolt I think is at 96 lbs and the three little bolts are 7lbs, I used red locktight.
I have 650 miles on the 2016 XPT I Purchased February this year. yesterday tired to pull of primary clutch. Have a black puller. First try bent tip on puller. Cut off tip of puller (about 1/2"). Used synthetic wheel bearing grease on tip & threads of puller. With impact clutch popped off. Tip of puller is mushroomed now so clearly not made of very good material. will order one that I can verify is properly hardened now. Two of the 3 bolts were loose. One was just barely touching back of clutch but no damage yet. Used the highest strength red Loctite on them & torqued the 9 ft lbs. Used to use 3/4"x16 All thread with two nuts years ago on our sportsman atvs. Anyone have experience with good hardened puller that will not bend? Recommend using the grease when using puller. Makes a big difference.
What are the bolts doing as their job. So u need to pull the clutch off or can u see if there loose without pullin it off. I dont want to buy a damn puller.
You have to pull the primary, they are referring to the 3 bolts that hold the inner belt housing cover in place. They are prone to coming loose and destroying the primary and secondary as they bounce around inside the belt box. Ive also seen some threads where the dealer/Polaris tried to blame the consumer and wouldnt warranty them.
Have a 2016 XPT with all the dealer updates to the clutch
About 600 miles on it now.
When I go WOT Engine seems to hit rev limiter. & top speed about 75mph
If I let up on the throttle a bit speed will continue to climb to about 80mph
OEM belt looks like new with no apparent dust or debris in housing
Removed Primary clutch to check bolts behind it (2 were loose)
Clutch appears to be very clean & has the 2017 shims, spyder etc.
Do you have some recommendations such as different weights or primary spring.
Machine is stock
Not interested in wild mods or tunes
Just want to correct above problem
SUGGESTIONS?
A tune will do it but you can get a clutch kit and dialed in that way. The clutch kit will get you running in the proper shift out and increase performance.
I love my osp clutch kit. I'm sure the others are great too. The customer service at osp is unbelievable. Not to many places will the owner give you his cell number incase you need help tuning.
I had my ECU flashed thru EVO. If you want the capability of changing your tune from different levels or troubleshooting I would use a Dynojet with Aftermarket Assasins tunes. Clutch kits I would use a Dalton as they are easier to adjust.
