Re: Trail Tech belt temp system.

The only gauge worth having in my opinion is the Razorback brand, it uses a infrared beam to measure the belt temp not a sensor that just measures the air temp in the CVT cover.

I use one as the air temp is a direct result of the belt temp. I mounted mine in the clutch exhaust boot. I had to extend the wire by three feet or so to get the gauge on the dash. My buddy has the alba gauge and they read the same.

its like baking something in a oven and just monitoring the temp in oven(your clutch housing) instead of monitoring what your cooking(your belt).

Sure, the air temp gauge gives you a reading, but you have no idea what the temp of the belt is, your just seeing the ambient temperature of your clutch housing. Having used a razorback for awhile now I can tell you your belt changed temps FAST, there is no why a ambient gauge could give you a accurate reading of what the belt is seeing.

IMO, I wouldn't waste any money on a belt temp gauge that doesn't work like the razorback. That's just my $.02.

No doubt the the $300 razorback is more accurate. That being said the OP asked if anyone has used the cheap $40 unit. I dont need to know the exact temp of my belt, I can watch my $40 gauge climb in temp and know to back off for a bit. It's a $100 cheaper than the alba one and works the same. I've blown a few rear clutch covers at $300 a pop, it would suck to take out a $300 gauge too.

I have considered what the cost maybe be for the Razorback sensor if the belt does take it out. Think I'm gonna see how much It actually is.

Re: Trail Tech belt temp system.

Just checked and it's 125. The way it's designed though I think you have a good chance of it surviving a belt catastrophe.

Totally right! Our Infrared Sensors are recessed in an durable aluminum casing, and have minimal exposure inside the clutch cover. With that said, every gauge/sensor comes with a 1 year warranty - so if something ever stops working right, just let us know! Even if it's after the 1 year, we'll make sure to find a solution that works for you!
