Camper Trailer an XP can tow

I would like to once again tap into the incredible wealth of knowledge that the members of this forum possess : ). I take clients and friends out on our RZR into the mountain fed rivers in Northern Alberta...fishing quite often in the fall. Usually we go for day trips but it would sure be nice to do overnight trips. Problem is that we usually trailer the RZRs down to an unload point near the caribou gates and then have an hour or two ride down to the rivers on the machines. There really isnt any good spots to pull RV's into where we go fishing and its a pain to have to ride back to the trailer every morning and night...so..

What have you all come across for small campers that:
1.) Can be pulled by a RZR XP
2.) Sleep at least two
3.) Preferably have descent ground clearance
4.) Are made of primarily of aluminum or some light weight material. I prefer to stay away from the fabric options out there do to the excessive amount of curious grizzly bears we tend to encounter.

Thanks again in advance for all of your suggestions...Pics would be greatly appreciated!

Check out the Simply Rugged trailers. Devin drug them all over the rocks at Moab 2 years ago behind a rzr. They held up awesome and go over some killer landscapes. They are a hybrid hard sided and canvas. They are tough and in a category all their own. Perfect for a SXS.

Thanks for the suggestions. Does anyone know what a safe max tow weight for the xp would be in low? It's blank on the spec sheet...probably due to the fact there is no factory receiver.

Think about it this way....would you feel comfortable towing another RZR home if it broke down? That's 1100-1500 lbs right there! I have towed broke down RZRs with my 700 Sportsman 20 plus miles no problem.

2016 RZR Turbo
32" Roctanes on GMZ LiteLoc wheels, Zbroz high clearance radius rods, Factory UTV Rocker and Skids, PRP harness, RIGID boxes, Superwinch Terra 4500 wide spool winch, 3P clutch shims, Thunder Hawk hitch, heated seats, Tusk aluminum doors, 3 forward facing LEDs, LED rock lights, home made front tow point. Soon to come: cage, axles, high clearance suspension, shocks re-valved and springs.

Re: Camper Trailer an XP can tow

Sounds pretty cool.. From what i've read in the manual the XP is good for two passengers and 300lbs. in the bed. The bed weight is centered over the axels, and since your hitch will be past that point that weight will be reduced. Like my deisel truck, if i'm towing a fifthwheel it's good to 17k lbs. if your towing a tag it's only good for 14k lbs. IMO, keep it as light as you can and keep an eye on the tounge weight of the trailer you choose.

Re: Camper Trailer an XP can tow

The xp doesnt come with a tow hitch. and i think that is for a reason. The radius rods and trailing arms arent really setup for such. Pulling a broke down machine out once a year is a lot different than pulling a trailer several times a year. Not saying it wont do it, it will. Make sure you prepare to have extra belts on standby, maybe some clutching work done, and good springs/shocks. Not saying dont do it, but make sure you get it setup right, so its safe and easier on the machine.

You do have to keep I mind it's not 1500lbs of dead weight. You can easily push around a 1500lb trailer by yourself if you have a wheel on the tongue. I would tow in low gear if you get to some rough stuff. Keep the tongue weight low and 1500lbs shouldn't be anything to it. I had an arctic cat 650 that I could pull around a 20' car trailer to move it around. Well over 1500lbs and half the machine the xp is

Very good point.

But at the same time, if you hooked that 20ft trailer to your atv and tried to drive down the trail, up hills, down hills, thru creeks, mud, sand, etc it would be hard ton the machine no doubt.
