Power Steering?

Iíve been thinking about adding power steering to my 2012 900XP. I see these kits from $500 to $1200. Whatís the difference in all of these kits? I've heard the Polaris OEM has variable assist that is based on speed. Do they all work like this? What system do you have and what are your thoughts on it? Thank you

Re: Power Steering?

I did a LOT of research of all the available brands (like 6 of them total) and ended up spending the extra for the Pure Polaris kit made for my 2012 XP900 and am very glad I did. I have now got to drive a couple of machines with aftermarket kits and they don't compare to the factory Polaris kit. Plus the fact that since it's genuine Polaris it's also coverd by my Polaris extended warranty on my machine. I was able to pick mine up at my dealer for less than $1000 out the door. The MSRP on these kits is a big mark up over what dealers actually pay so if you look around/check with different dealers you can find ones who will sell them much cheaper than the book price. The factory kit plugs into your factory harness, no cutting or splicing, and adjust itself baised on several inputs from your XP's computer, not just speed sensitive but I was told also reads RPM's, if it's in 4x4 or 2x4, and if engine braking is currently active and makes minor changes to sensitivity baised on a software map taking all of those factors into consideration. It also works with the factory EPS warning light and trouble codes on your dash in the event there is ever trouble. Like if your battery voltage drops below a certain level the factory kit will shut itself off until the battery voltage is back to normal to prevent further battery drain by the EPS unit. Something that could potentially keep the machine running long enough to get you back to camp in the event your charging system ever went out, it still steers fine if it's disactivated, just feels like before you added power steering. A few of the aftermarket ones said you could "tap-in" to the speed sensor wire so it adjust somewhat baised on speed but didn't do any of those other things and wont be coverd by your Polaris warranty or extended warranty because they are aftermarket. Besides that, the two I drove, I could just "feel" the difference compared to the ones with the factory kits that I have driven and I liked the factory units feel better across all speeds and conditions. The factory kit does cost noticably more, $1000 compared to $600 so an increase of $400 but to me the difference was worth it over the life of the machine and to know my 5 year extended Polaris warranty would cover it just like any other factory part on the machine. Took me about two hours to install it myself BTW with the instructions so didn't have to spend money to have it installed by the dealer, it was fairly easy. After doing my own first I've since helped friends do theirs and only just over an hour each time for those once I knew how do it, so it's not hard, just be sure to read your instructions TWICE before even starting, then refer to them each step as you go also. They arn't even long so reading them twice only takes like 5 minutes and it's good to have an overview of the whole procedure before you even start at all.

I didn't say that... I sell the OEM P/S Kit and I know how it reacts and the feedback from those that have bought one from me...

Re: Power Steering?

I love my ez-steer but I will admit, its a little loose at 70. I just steers so easily. I really like it mostly for taking away the bump-steer. When I buy a new rzr I will just get the factory ps but this works great as an add on unit.

Re: Power Steering?

They all will take a little getting used to at speed, I have used the Unisteer and the Polaris EPS..the Polaris speed sensative feature does help at speed..but again take a little time to get used to it before you go high speeds where there is no room for error..heck that goes for no EPS too...at top speed on these things in an offroad enviroment, even a wide open field, bad things can happen fast.
