Coolant/Antifreeze

My reservoir is completely empty.

Do I need to use Polaris coolant to top it off or can I use the stuff from the auto parts store?

If I can use the stuff from the auto parts store, what type should I use?

Re: Coolant/Antifreeze

Most parts stores sell Prestone brand that you can add to any anti-freeze, just read on the container and it will say.

Re: Coolant/Antifreeze

Just be sure to use the Green antifreeze that list "aluminum safe" on it somewhere. Most all of your major brands including larger store chain brands will have it. About the only ones that don't anymore is those way over-priced totally off-brand things you see sometimes in gas stations. One tip though, while your at it get one of those small bottels of "Water Pump Lubricant and Rust Preventative" and add a small amount to it as well. One bottle is enough for a cars cooling system so you only need a couple of oz of it in your XP (though putting all of it wont hurt). I added some to my XP when it was new and poured the rest into my cars overflow bottle.

Re: Coolant/Antifreeze

My 2012 RZR 800 uses about 1 quart of antifreeze every 1000 miles. No leaks, no drips, no green stains, no milky engine oil, just an occasional antifreeze whiff especially during hard power applications. At 3600 miles, I'm just chalking it up as a normal.

"1 quart of antifreeze every 1000 miles" is not normal, and it has to be going somewhere. I suspect that you've got a head-gasket leak and the missing coolant is going out the tail-pipe, which would also explain why you smell it occasionally under hard acceleration. Just my two-bits..........

Cheers
