How to remove and replace rear axles?

300M axles are here from Ricochet with cv's.

I've never changed axles on a atv/utv from looking on youtube it says basically after you clear the hub by removing the cotter pin and nut (which I can figure out) you basically just yank them from the case and jam the new one in untill it clicks in?

Would anyone have the associated pages from the service manual they could forward to me?

Re: How to remove and replace rear axles?

Basically you will remove the hub assembly if on the rear and it makes it easier if you remove the lower shock bolt and bungy both the upper a-arm and the shock up out of the way. Give your old axle and swift tug and it should pull right out. Next get your new axle with cv's, get it started into the differential and give it a nice swift hit with a rubber mallet on the outter cv to knock it into the differential.

If you are reffering to placing your stock cvs onto the 300m shafts here is a video how to do that as well:

Excellent thanks for the info and the video, both axles came with cuts in the boots if you can believe it from who ever mounted the cv to the axles. I have to replace two of the boots from new.

New axles? If this is the xp forget about the a arm and shock deals. Remove wheel, remove trailing arms from hub, remove brake caliper, pull. Hub off. Yank axle out and pop new one in. Not sure on torque for the hub nut though. 8 bolts, thinking 15mm, hub nut, and the 4 on wheel.

I never removed the hub. I just removed the hub side of the radius rods. The hub nut. Then the trailing arm will pivot out enough for the axle to pop out of the rear end. Then slide out the other end out of the hub. I removed and replaced axles in under 10 min.

Yea, thought about that. But didn't seem to want to do it. Also I like to give the axle a tug to make sure its locked in tranny.

Re: How to remove and replace rear axles?

Was an easy job to do, removed radius rods and hubs took 15 minutes to do the second one. Hopefully these guys are tougher.

Probably has to do with the fact that the same company makes them for Can Am and Polaris.

Norm, how did those CVs look compared to the stockers? I went with LSR axles front and back for the lifetime warranty. But I wouldn't mind upgrading the CVs either. I think the upgrades should be axles, boots, and CVs in that order of importance. I'm convinced my boot tore because of the "plasticky" nature of it. Kimpex makes a nice generic rubber boot for the Rhino that is 10X more pliable, and it's cheap. I'm going to see if it will fit when I have mine apart next week. Have fun at Brule if that's where you're heading.

Re: How to remove and replace rear axles?

The cv's on the ricochet axles are stock polaris as best I can tell, I was worried about the cv's on one side but I think they were ok on disassembly, now I have spares... more parts on the shelf. I would have bought HD but they nor I could find any.

We are heading to west country tomm if the weather cooperates and rexburg next weekend if the weather cooperates.
