Reported XP 900 issues and fixes

At the request of the membership this thread has been started to list issues that owners of the new RZR-XP have experienced. Hopefully this will give new XP owners a place to look for things they can check quickly and easily.

This thread will be locked and only reported issues and fixes will be listed. This will keep the thread shorter and easier to read without random comments. If you would like to report an issue do so in the "report XP problems thread": http://www.rzrforums.net/ranger-rzr-...lems-here.html
If the membership deems your report worthy, it will be added to this thread by a moderator.

We'll see if this works!

re: Reported XP 900 issues and fixes

Some RZR-XP were delivered with a negative battery cable disconnected.
There should be two connected to the battery. If the dealer forgets to connect it, the RZR will run for a while, but the battery will not be charging and will eventually go dead leaving you stranded. Make sure they are both connected.

re: Reported XP 900 issues and fixes

The owners manual says to grease the rubber gasket edge on the air intake filter.
There are debates on wether or not this is required. Decide for yourself.

You may want to upgrade the spring style clamps on the coolant and oil lines.

Behind the passenger seat there is a water hose (see pic)
this hose has spring clamps they need to be replaced with a regular hose clamp.
There is quite a bit of pressure when you are on the throttle (put your hand on it and rev it up the hose swells) Any way mine blew off yesterday i noticed the steam right away and shut down. I was lucky i had people with me so i was able to go get clamps and coolent and fix it on the dunes. Very easy cheap fix but it will ruin your day if you are out riding.
I also wanted to mention that we had 2 other xp 900's in our group that were bought from a differnt dealer 2 weeks after i bought mine and the dealer had slid the spring clamps down and installed standard hose clamps (slid them down so he could install clamp without draining coolent)
Not sure if thier was a service bulletin or he had a few come in with that hose blown off.

re: Reported XP 900 issues and fixes

There have been a couple reports of plastic melting/burning behind the passenger seat where the exhaust headers come close to the plastic.
Until Polaris responds, you may want to add an aluminum heat shield or header blanket like some members have done:

Some snorkel kits are coming with heat shields:

Be aware that there have been some serious problems with heat from the header melting or even burning the plastic behind the seats. While you have the rear fenders and bed off, it might be a good time to look into some additional heat reduction. Options include exhaust wrap, ceramic coating, or header blankets.

re: Reported XP 900 issues and fixes

A forum member reported that a "service bulletin" from Polaris has come out regarding a factory heat shield to install on the XP.

Check with your local Polaris dealer.

this has turned into a full recall for the 2011 RZR-900-XP: http://www.polaris.com/en-us/company...?articleID=142

re: Reported XP 900 issues and fixes

A few members have reported that the stator wires were routed on the wrong side of the coolant hoses and are getting too hot next to the exhaust. check yours before they melt!

re: Reported XP 900 issues and fixes

Apparently there was a change made on the valve springs.
Some 2011 and 2012 RZR-XP owners can have Polaris dealers change them out at no charge.
Call your dealer with your vin# and see if your XP qualifies.

#10 = 7043919 Spring, Valve [Built 4/10/12 and After]
#10 = 7043745 Spring, Valve [Built 4/09/12 and Before]

re: Reported XP 900 issues and fixes

There is an issue on some 2013 XP models where two bolts that hold on the skid plate are too long and can possibly puncture the oil pan if impacted when riding. Polaris has been mailing out shorter bolts with instructions to those that purchased these units.
