Oil Change

Has anyone done an oil change yet?

What's the thoughts on non-Polaris oil and filter?

I was reading the owners manual and it doesn't indicate what viscosity oil to use.

Re: Oil Change

Same oil and filter as all the other 2 cylinder Polaris rides.
I personally only use Polaris oil which is 0-40 or something real close to that.

Re: Oil Change

You can use same aftermarket oil filters we use on 800 engines. They are just a little taller then XP filter.

Re: Oil Change

my thoughts on other oil manufacturers and filters is this...........do you think polaris uses some special space age materials in their engines that blow up when they see another brand of oil? also, do you think you can come up on a plant that produces motor oil and see POLARIS written on the sign ? The answer to both of those questions is no.

as far as filters, there are different quality filters out there.

Re: Oil Change

I've always used Rotella T in my race bikes with success. This shouldn't be any different.

Does everybody agree on 0-w40?

I use Rotella T 5-40 synthetic in everything what have a engine including RZR except quads. I was never sure if wet clutches will be ok with it. But if you use it in race bikes, look like will be OK too. IMO

Re: Oil Change

Just my 2 cents..... I've always used the recommended Polaris oils. On my last two RZR's I've purchased the exteneded warentee contracts, and I've gotten my money's worth from them. I figure if I use oem oil's, they can't ever say that I didn't service it like I should have. From what I've seen, the Polaris OEM oils isn't that much more than any other high quality synthetic oils. My last RZR had 327hrs and 4700-/+ miles, and still ran like a top and didn't use any oil. Hopefully the XP will give me the same kind of service.

On my turbo Raptor, I always ran high dollar synthetic oils, but a motor with a wet clutch is a different story.

14 RZR XP1K did I say YAHOO!!!

Re: Oil Change

Any fluid made by just about any reputable manufacturer will work as long as it is synthetic and similar in viscosity grade compared to what is recommended by popo. In fact I doubt it even has to be synthetic, but im not going to be the first to test that out.

A lot is made about using brand x or y, but you are best off choosing a quality grade and sticking with it.

Just did my break-in period full fluid change and used all Polaris fluid and a new Polaris filter... Will probably go to something like Amsoil down the road

Re: Oil Change

I believe that the polaris oil is a 2W50. A very odd weight, but I am going to use AMSOIL 0W40 when I do my first oil change.
