U think this is OK? Shock Dammage

I got a few pics from Fineline suspension In Huntington beach today. The rear shock coils on my XP are flexing enough to rub on the shock body. It's rubbing bad enough to destroy the threads on the outside of the shock.

Re: U think this is OK? Shock Dammage

I would say if it's in the middle of the coil and you never need to get the upper or lower spring plate rings past that point, then it's fine.... If you're not racing or wanting 110% out of your XP

That spot looks pretty low on the main spring. I think the springrates are fine but the coils are cheap. I bet they will sag and fade over time faster than the coils that FOX shocks really uses on their retail products... or King Shocks, or Rad-flo, or Walker Evans.

DunningPinned,
You either have really bad luck or you are a sh!t slinger on this site.
You have posted nothing but problems on your XP.
I think you seriously need to look into the lemon law for your state.

I was thinking Polaris was going to put a hit on me

I'm just a very cynical guy. I loved my RZR 800 and am pretty brand loyal.

Seriously though. How many people actually look over 100% of their car after each ride? I bet less than 10%. Most just wait for shit to explode

So you had a RZR 800 but you were not a member and never posted anything until you get the XP.
Now all you post is problems about the XP and I know the 800 had plenty of problems.
You see why it seems fishy?

Re: U think this is OK? Shock Dammage

Personaly I dont think its a problem, it's a first year machine and there will be some issues. I would rather read about them and be able to go check mine out for the same problem rather then after the fact. It seems DuningPinned is into his machine as he has quite a few extra's already done. I made the mistake and bought a 99.5 first year silverado when they redid it. Man that truck spent more time at the dealer then it did on the road the first year. I told myself then I would never buy another first year vehicle, but here I am with a new XP paid for and waiting for it to get here. Not only did I/we buy a first year machine the family bought a total of 3. So bring on all the good and the bad, its still worth it in my opinion. Sorry for the long story.

Toby

I've had a 08 red rzr, and a 09 rzr-s, and just logged onto the forum because I met and rode with some good forum peeps down at Glamis this past new years.... I don't see anything "fishy" about voicing, telling or sharing the pros and cons of a RZR.......jmo. I'm soaking up all the pit falls of this new model before I actually get mine. Which I think is a HUGE advantage for me, so I can be aware of the different issues, and hopefully make preventative steps to keep them from happening to mine.....just to name a couple: hot head pipe melting fire wall plastic, shock spring rubbing, air box issues....etc....

I Agree. Most everything I've ever owned has had a problem or two, but the good has always outweighed the bad. All I can figure is that some people are pessimists regardless of how full the glass is.

Re: U think this is OK? Shock Dammage

You could protect that area with some teflon sheeting. Is the rubbing doing any damage to the inside of the spring which may lead to breakage later on?

That's a joke. Do they hand out fourm id's here the day you buy a rzr?
I bought an 08 rzr800 USED in 09 that was 85% aftermarket LT racecar. Call Brian owner of Long Travel Industries and he'll tell you about all the hubs I broke, the cv's I mangled, the rear diffs I broke, all the frame gussets they had to add etc etc etc. I beat on that car for 2 years and it held up well enough for me to buy an XP.

I have said repeatedly I'm happy with the XP overall. I'd buy it again tomorrow. I'd buy another one if I had the spare cash.

I use this forum as a tool to learn the pros and cons of the machine and all the available aftermarket parts. When I find a "weak link" in any vehicle or machine I replace it with a better/stronger part. I build, machine and weld what I can and pay pros to do what I can't. I will gladly pass on my findings as I hope others would too.

Polaris advertised this XP as a high performance desert UTV. I have quickly learned that the XP, while leaps ahead of the RZR-S, will require the same amount of aftermarket additions as all its' predecessors to be driven the way I want. It's first real test will be pre-running the San Felipe 250 this year.

I don't force anyone to read anything. Feel free not to waste your time on me
