Why does it feel like the emergency brake is on?

So I just picked up my new XP 900 last night. I have wanted a side by side since the rhino first came out. Glad I waited. My wife surprised me with last weekend when I was at the dealership. Best Wife in the World! Took me a few days to locate one. See my earlier thread if you are in the market. I created a list.

Anyway... I have driven a S in the dunes for a weekend but the XP does not feel right. Granted I have been riding on the street but it feel like it is sluggish until you get on it. I know it has a hill decent assist but just does not feel right. Any thoughts. Also, the thing rattles like a jeep that has been on the Rubicon for 25 years.

Thanks,

Check your brake calibers see if they are loose .I would jack up your ride and see if the wheels are turning freely as well .

Crappy ITP's. They actually had to switch it out because it was shipped with a hole in the tire! I asked if they would switch them out for the big horns on the S but they sad no.

Trying to find out what paddles to get. One to get the Skat Trac Hauler [7]. But they are $$$$.

Re: Why does it feel like the emergency brake is on?

the engine brake is way better than the rzr/rzrs. I've got 26" 8 paddle haulers that do pretty well, but Id really like to get a 27" 9 paddle.

I think those STU half paddles might do well too.

Re: Why does it feel like the emergency brake is on?

I felt the same e-brake thing you're describing on my RZR S when moving it around on the road by my house. Once I get it on the dirt, though, it's a completely different animal. The tread on those tires is really not made for street and produces a lot of drag.

Wait till you get it out on the sand/dirt. If it's still feeling that way, it's time to start looking at it closely.

x2 on FJK's suggestion of getting the wheels off the ground and spinning them. It's a cheap easy way to test a whole host of stuff - brakes stuck, bearing problems, axles binding, diff problems, etc. etc.

Put jack stands under it and get all four wheels off the ground, and then experiment with it in gear, rev it up and spin those wheels with the engine, let off the gas, see what happens. Turn it off and spin them by hand while it's in gear, check to see if the diff is doing the right thing. Put it in neutral, spin them by hand, see if they move freely. Wiggle them around a bit to feel for loose wheel bearings.

Re: Why does it feel like the emergency brake is on?

as far as rattles,,, check the passenger grab bar. the pin is known to rattle a lot.
you can get rattle stop clamps for it, or take out the pin and put in a bolt and nut then tighten it down so it doesn't rattle.

Yah man, jack it up, put it in neutral and spin them tires. They should spin relatively easy. It is possible the brakes arent adjusted right or whatever...

Re: Why does it feel like the emergency brake is on?

Thanks for the all the info. I am going to run a few test. I test drove another one at the store today and it was the same way. The mechanic said it just needs to be broken in. The clutch/belt is just new and needs some time.

Thanks again! Now I need to find a good place on line to order tires.

Sounds like some of you are not used to engine braking. I love engine brakeing for around here. Saves on your brakes big time in the hills.
