That looks awesome. I saved all the cage pics. I really like the bed mounting idea. I will definitely be taking a few of your ideas to apply to my own. Great work.

Re: Building a better XP go fast rock crawler

I like everything about it. I'm going to build something similar. I've see one others xp with the rear tubes mounted that way. I really like it.

kula,
I am really liking the wheel tire combo you have there. Can you tell me more about them and where you got them?

Re: Building a better XP go fast rock crawler

As a rock crawler this would be a good candidate for narrower fender flares.

Re: Building a better XP go fast rock crawler

After explanation I understand now.
Ref photo of those parts isolated. I called it a sub-assy, he calls it bed support.
The bed support bolts to the frame. (4) places.

Thanks, I miss it, but it was time to move on. That thing owned big rock technical trails!

Some smaller flares are in the plans, just haven't done it yet.

I will get to that in a bit. might even do a full tire review.

Thanks for all the props guys!

After my first trip to Moab and following the 800's, I would take the exact line and hang on my trailing arms. I would back up a foot or two and give it a little skinny pedal and would pop right up. I wanted to crawl it and started planning a set of trailing arms that would offer increased clearance. After thinking about the planning and effort it would take I decided to pick up a set of Zbroz trailing arms and lower radius rods. I was very pleased when they arrived! nice design, good welds and a buch more clearance. The only bitch(and it was a small one) was the shock guard mount had to be rotated 180 degrees so that it would miss the recessed lower shock attach point. This made the shock guards totally useless being on the aft side of the shock. About 5 bucks and some thin wall aluminum tube and a little fabbing and I was back in business. The adapter just transfers the mounting hole higher and back to the front side of the shock where it belongs.

Re: Building a better XP go fast rock crawler

The Front lower A arms are also tig welded Chrome moly tubing and plate and were made by a buddy of mine. He made two sets and the other one is on another XP that won King Of the Hammers a few times. I guess if they'll last for Mitch, they will hold up for me. While I had everything out I decided to get rid of the red and go black. I've never been a fan of colored suspension...just me...

I didn't notice any handling difference at all, if that's what your asking. I did notice a huge improvement in not getting hung up on every little rock or step I came across. As you can see in the picture, the front part of the trailing arm is actually above my skid plate.

While I'm talking about skid plates, I'll give a big thumbs up to Factory UTV skid plates! They fit perfect and work awesome. Another must have purchase that's for sure. They slide well and did I mention they fit great? Unlike another purchase I'll bring up later...

Re: Building a better XP go fast rock crawler

Great thread. Thanks for all the info. As a former "big jeep" guy I am working on many of the same mods after our ROTR trip.
