I was just reading about some of the Can Am (Outlander) guys using a new belt by Gates, the Carbon Series, that have actual carbon fiber belts in them, just wondering if anyone had used these before and what the results were...I was interested because they are $50 less than the OEM and you can get them at NAPA and O'Riellys...
XP Belt p/n - 21C4140
The old style is the 21G4140...I already know how these work, just interested if anyone had run the "C" model...
most of the clutch belts have carbon in them thats the nasty gray dust you see when you change your belt... oem or wasteland have been the best belts so far
I just received 2 of them today I will be putting one on and trying it this weekend. Ordered from royal supply part number 21c4140. $189.58 shipped for 2.
I will, I have another oem as a spare as well as the one I'm about to take off. I really don't need another belt right now but ever since I saw this thread I've been wanting to try one as an alternative so I ordered 2. I'm one of those people that believes you can't have enough spare parts. Lol
I ran the Gates Carbon belt at the last UTV Rally Raid event and it never slipped on me. Took it out after race and it looks better than one race on a factory belt (factory has been glazing on me). So far so good. I'll report back after more testing, but so far so good.
You can get it from Oreilly's auto parts. It was $80 something and I had to pay shipping since it was a special order, but I got it for around $94.
Here is the part number from Gates. Your NAPA store is wrong on that being a bad part number. They may not be able to get it, but 21C4140 is the correct number.
I put over 100 rock crawling, creek crossing, fire road flying miles on the carbon belt this past weekend with no issues at all. It's been raining since I got home but I will pull the cover off and look at it tomorrow, I suspect it still looks new.
Looks to be a real alternative to the oem not that I had trouble with them either but these are less expensive and made by Gates.
I first saw the Gate Carbon Fiber belt on this thread. I was looking to get a spare and OEM were running more that $200 plus tax so I ordered my Gates online. Ended up being $103 shipped to my door. It will be here Friday and I can put it on and give it a test.
Took the cover off today and inspected the new belt after this past weekends ride. The belt still looked like it did when I put it on. I hope to get many miles out of it. I look forward to input from others that try it also.
The belt that Superatv has is the standard "G" belt, not the Carbon "C" belt. They are different. SuperATV does not carry the Carbon Chord. I talked to Gates directly before I bought one of these and the "C" is supposed to be a better belt.
Are you guys installing these dry right out of the box or doing all the dumb shit people do with OEM belts? Soaking it in soapy water for 6 days, sanding it with 40 grit paper, having it baptized, etc?

I found it on the web as well there, and gave my local store the part number and it was like they couldnt do anything without a make and model of car. Once they found out it was not for a car /truck, they shut down and said they couldn't help me!
Looks like Ebay / online stores here I come!
