Re: Engine Oil Options

worrying about oils and researching it to hell and back is a huge waste of time and energy, run the polaris oil change kits.

I understand, i bought the kit for this change. My concern is this, they engineered the oil, they also engineered the gas tank vent, and the heat shields, the hydraulic cam tensioner, the plastic front diff bearing cage, the front diff shims. So i fell its only necessary to investigate some. I know they did alot of good engineering too. But the buggy is there nitch as where the oil is the company that made it (probably the cheapest bid)

Im planning on giving the poll some time.

Re: Engine Oil Options

Oil analysis is inexpensive and I would hardly call it a huge waste of time.

Clearly, fuel dilution is a real problem in certain conditions.

Re: Engine Oil Options

We do oil analysis all the time in on aircraft engines. The only time we see fuel in the oil is when there was some diesel fuel in the regular gas. This happens at the time when a driver refuelling tanks doesn't follow procedure in flushing a line. The diesel fuel will migrate into the oil. This is usually self limiting and usually isn't harmful because it's more trace amounts and usually goers away with other fuel fill ups and oil changes.

Re: Engine Oil Options

Because of direct valve actuation I use oils with moderate to high levels of zinc. Other than that just frequent service is the recipe for success.

Re: Engine Oil Options

I use rotella t6.

I change every race or every three rides, because dirty air=particle ingestion. I don't care what air filter you run, dirt can go through all of them at a certain size or smaller. I change the oil filter every other oil change. I have been steady gaining interest in seeing a OA for my car, maybe I will send one in soon.

The change in noise at idle was DRASTIC, the rotella made it sound like a sewing machine. The popo oil before I changed over, I swear the drivetrain was 3 times louder. Call me crazy or whatever but it really is simple math. Oh and my running temps during testing went down 12-20 degrees

2.5 gallons of rotella is about 50$ or so?

The full kill motor is OEM plus 6k$......

so easy even a caveman can do it.

Engine Oil Options

I was hoping someone would bring up Rotella.

I ran rotella synthetic in my motorbike, as did a whole lotta other dudes on the forums. No troubles, and it was $20 for a gallon.

Re: Engine Oil Options

I was leaning towards rotella, my only problems with it are 540 Rat's testing ranking 161 of 194 at 67,804psi highest was 134,000. And then some claim it made there engine runn warmer.
But comparing the unreliable Blackstone results it looks promising rotella vs PS-4 Extreme 10w50

Some of the reports may have come for forum members on here, if you want me to pull them down or credit PM me.

But yeah rotella meets the CJ-4 and JASO MA2 which are good right? And above poster claimed smoother and cooler running.
So im to Rotella, Amsoil, or PS-4 extreme(in that order probably). Everything else is ester oil (race) mail order.

Best post yet, you sir are clearly an experienced forum member. Seriously. +1 to you

I didn't do a ton of research to get to Rotella. I just read as much as I could stand it here and on the oil forum and a few other places, it's probably more reading than most would do.

On a slightly serious note, I had a hard time finding negative info on the Rotella. Maybe I didn't look in the right places?

Oh and whoever had info on sending in oil for OA, please share. My curiousity is growing. I may start doing one every 6 months in an attempt to learn something.

Re: Engine Oil Options

Rotella is in the high 40w.
We were in the single digits last week, everyone says the PS4 extreme is the better oil but it being a 10w, I'm at the lower end of the spectrum with my temperature outside. I'm leaning towards the Rotella. I called Amsoil and asked the same question to guys and got two different answers. They said that they don't do API spec on her oil because OEM does not anymore.

Re: Engine Oil Options

I did a bit of research a while back and I landed on Mobil1 T4 10W-40. I found a motorcycle oil analysis test and the T4 was top 3 in every category. What finalized my decision was that I live in a small town and I can get the T4 locally at O'reilly's. I put the T4 in the first time at about 1500 mile (3rd change if I remember correctly) and currently have 4700 miles on my XP 4 1000. I change it at 40 hours intervals and it hasn't started using any oil yet. I live in the AZ desert and make a few trips a year to the dunes.

The fuel ingestion is interesting. I will be sure to limit my cold starts going forward.
