We did the Tahoe side with a bunch of UTVs last July:
UTV Guide - Trip Report - UTV Run on the Rubicon Trail

Also hit Barrett Lake:
UTV Guide - Barrett Lake Jeep Trail

Would be cool to do Fordyce next summer. Would be interesting with the river crossings.

Not sure about Sand Mountain. Sometime this Springs.
Moab in May for the UTV Rally.
Hopefully Oregon this summer.

I'm not sure if I will make it out on Sunday to the races. Still trying.

Re: Rubicon Trail Northern California Part 1 & 2

John
The rocks on the rubicon trail hit the bottom a lot but my RZR held up great. I was on it 6 or more times last summer.Looking forward to more trips this summer.
No I don't have any ATV's, this is my first machine. I have a 1984 CJ-7 that I have done alittle fourwheeling with.
I will be making a new skidplate out of UHMW = Ultra-High Molecube Weight Polyethylene.
I will be using 3/8th thickness for the skid. This material is stronger then metal skidplates and it slides over rocks just like sliding over ICE, plus it keeps the sound down when banging the rocks. I plan on making some side protection sliders-combo rock guards also.
I want to beable to slide over the rocks better.

Jon
Thanks for the links and pictures they were great.
I spend a lot of time on the PRC Ranger forum. Should have checked this forum out sooner. Last summer I tried putting some rides together for the Rubicon but it never happened. Wish I new about your ride.
It would be fun to do the trail with other people instead of by myself.
I also want to do Barrets Lake Trial this summer.
Fordyce Trail would be fun, not sure about the water crossing the current might sweep us away. It would depend on the run off. I would love to do it though.
I was also thinking about the dept of the water, what do you think.
I see by your pictures from the ride that a lot of you run LT kits, how do they hold up in the rocks. Did they help or hinder you in the rocks.

I see the two of you have been in the sand, I'm looking forward to doing some myself.
I have talked to Paul at HART'S several times, I take it there's another race this weekend. I hope to race in the future myself, I won't have a LT kit but it would still be fun.

Also here's alittle info for you guys.
The owner of Placerville Polaris & Power Tools puts on a monthly trail ride. It is held the 2nd Sunday of each month.
Everyone meets at: 9:00am SHARP!
673 Placerville Dr. Placerville, Ca
(530) 622-9079
The owners names are:
Rick & Rose Grove
If you want to go just contact Rick.
I called earlier today. The ride this Sunday is taking place in Pollock Pines on the Poho Ridge Trail. I will be going on it.
All Riders & ATV's are Welcome.
Make sure your all fueled up and bring a lunch and beverage. Dress according to outside riding conditions.
Helmets are mandatory for ATV riders, along with greenstickers for everyone. UTV's do not need helmets it's up to you. I wear one myself at all times.
Hope to meet you guys in the furture, do your wives go on the rides with you, mine wants to take the rides in this summer.
Drop me a line sometime.
Thanks Tim

Re: Rubicon Trail Northern California Part 1 & 2

Long travel was nice to smooth the ride out a bit, but did not really "help" other than making the vehicle a bit more stable (wide). The one RZR that went was stock other than a UHMW skid plate. And he needed it.

Can't make the trip this weekend, but I am interested in other trips.
I have multiple UTVs so I'd like to get out there with the family more.

I am in Shingle Springs.

Feel free to email me with any local rides:
