Dipstick relocation - O ring problems

Hey guys - I installed a dipstick relocation kit on my '09 RZR-s so I could easily check the oil without having to pull the seats and harness' out. I'm having a problem all of a sudden. I've broken two dipstick rubber O rings within 100 miles. I don't recall how many miles I had put on it before the first one broke..... But now within a 100 miles it has broken another one. Anyone else have an issue with this?


The only thing that I can think of that I've done differently lately is that I've accidentally fire it up with my exhaust plugs in. But I'm not sure if that would cause the dipstick O ring to rupture or not?!?! Maybe if the crankcase vent was clogged up?

Let me know what you guys think.

I have one and have had no problems at all. Is it the Factory UTV kit?

Dune Shooting is indeed a blood sport, at least in my case!

You can say 'STOP' or 'ALTO' or use any other word you think will work, but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much the universal language.

Same here.......

Pull the dip-stick, start the engine, and put your finger over the dip-stick hole. You shouldn't feel any pressure or "pulses" at all. If you do, your PCV Valve is stuck. Also, you didn't say if your O-rings were being cut or torn.???

My rzr has a lot of "pulse" with the dipstick out. Where is this PCV you speak of?

2011 XP 900, Alba Racing Big Bore built motor with BoonDockers Turbo, HCR Long Travel, TMW race cage, Twisted Stitch suspension seats, Rigid LED lighting, and to many other things to list. Absolutely EPIC!!!!!!

Scotty - I appreciate the tip! Ill check that ASAP - if it is pulsing, where is the PCV valve located? What does it do? And how hard is it to replace or repair? Can I do it without taking the bed off?

It's located on top of the valve-cover, and you'll have to remove the bed to get to it and clean it.

Yeah it's at the end of the vent tube that melts on the later models.

I'd rather be riding in the desert than using Tapatalk!

Hey BarRZR - so, you'll pull the two small bolts that hold the vent line connection piece to the valve cover - what will I find under there? I keep my rzr in my trailer that's already in the desert - so I'm gearing up to make this repair in the dirt. How will I clean it? I've looked all through the manual/bible, but I can't find any reference to it at all.

I'm hoping I can get it out without pulling my bed - my bed is a son-of-a-gun to remove!

all i do is unbolt the entire bed, when i had an s bar, except the rear four around the muffler and lift the front end up with tarp straps, gives you enough room to so the small things like that without removing the s bar

Ok - I've got a little more information now. When you remove the dipstick - it is giving a bunch of pressure coming out the hole - sprays oil out too. I checked the PCV on the valve cover - was working fine and clean - vent line was clear. I hooked a vacuum up to the PCV port, and you could feel the vacuum at the oil dipstick hole - leads me to think no obstruction. The pressure coming out of the PCV was very minimal and kinda timed on/off/on/off - the pressure coming out of the dipstick was very rapid. I'm think its a oil system issue - Possiably a stuck check valve in the oil filter? Any thoughts?

this is normal the rzr 800 has allways sprayed oil out the dipstick this is why it has a lock lever...

Dipstick relocation - O ring problems

My understanding is the high pressure comes from the cylinders moving in unison as opposed to 180* out from each other. Mine has always been that way.
