Just Put Bandit Springs On (review)

Finally went with the bandit springs and so far there a huge difference from stock. I was at 12” front and 10.25” rear. Now I’m 14” front 13” rear. I went with them because they’re less than half the price of competitors and I didn’t want to spend the money on springs with the stock shocks. Eventually Im going with rebuild able ones that are valved for the springs. When one of these wear out or I have the money.

So far I’ve only road behind the house and the ride feels much better. The rear felt a little stiff but I’m sure it’ll smooth out or I can just put the stock main spring back if I feel it necessary. I carry about 330 lbs cab weight and just a 35 qt cooler in the bed plus bumpers. I’m going riding in two weeks so I’ll keep ya’ll posted.

I went with the stock preload of 7.25” in the front and 2.5” in the rear, which is .25” less than stock because the bandit tenders are that much taller. Eventually I’m going to run the rear tender up front and make them dual rate, when I get the time to powder coat them black.

Any question let me know I had a hard time finding good reviews on these, so I plan on posting reviews every few ride and when I change stuff.

Re: Just Put Bandit Springs On (review)

I ordered the bandit kit as well to get back some ground clearance and hopefully improve ride quality. Should arrive tonight! Im torn on whether to throw the stock rear tenders up front or not...

I'll report back after i take them out as well.

Re: Just Put Bandit Springs On (review)

According the the oem parts finder on rockymountainatv; stock is 140 front, 175 rear tender, and 350 rear main.
I can confirm the bandit springs are printed on the spring as front at 225, rear main 320, and tender ???

I would have went ahead and put them on. I just didn't want two different colors. Ill do it eventually but if you do please let me know how it rides. The front already rides a lot better just with the heavier bandit spring.

Re: Just Put Bandit Springs On (review)

Just A little update on the springs. Ive been riding around the house a few times for about a week and half and the new ride height is about 13.5" up front and 12.25" in the rear (was 14" and 13") which isn't bad I knew they would sag a little. Not going to be able to go ride and really test them out this weekend but will the following. Ill keep y'all posted on how they do.

Re: Just Put Bandit Springs On (review)

I ended up rattle can powdercoating the stock rear tender and putting it up front. Now, i live in the middle of phoenix, but riding through the neighborhood over the speed humps and parking lot speed bumps, it feels much better than stock. I'm not too concerned with ground clearance, but it is better than before by an inch or so. Cant wait to try it on the trails in a week! So far very happy with the purchase at $350 and quick/free shipping from Bandit. Hope to have a trail review soon

Re: Just Put Bandit Springs On (review)

Put quite a few miles on the springs these last two weekends and have to say theres no doubt they're worth it. I don't seem to bottom out anymore as I did over every bump in with the stocks. I haven't put the rear tender up front yet but going to do it soon.

Re: Just Put Bandit Springs On (review)

I have a 215 spring on the front from a 900 4 and I put the stock rear 175 tender on top of it before our memorial day trip. It was abysmal. Way too soft. You have to crank a lot of preload into it and it still takes a ton of shock travel for the tender to coil bind. I had to brake hard for every little washout or the shocks would bottom hard. All the preload makes it rebound hard and slam the shock when you're going slow and pop over a rock or something.

farmboy tried it on top of his 175-350 progressive QA1 springs and had similar results.

It's easy enough to try, but I doubt you'll like it unless you just putt putt down trails at 15-20 mph. I'm surprised bandit recommends this.

Re: Just Put Bandit Springs On (review)

I have a set of Bandit springs to install when I make time to do it. The rear tender springs on our machine are completely collapsed and the main springs are collapsing also. After reading many posts on this subject I have decided against using the rear tender springs up front. I will be sure to post my review of the new springs.

If your still running the stock tires once the springs settle you may want to pull some preload out of the front springs to get the front down closer to 12.50" It will help with the stiffness you felt.

Our front springs are 225 lb. So a little heavier than the 215 oe Polaris springs. We had good luck with it when we tried it. Plus we used brand new 175 springs. It is possible that used 175 tender springs may be weakened to much for certain guys. In the end result we did like just having the 225 springs on front with no tender as we sell them in our spring kit.
