I have a RZR 900 Trail 2017 and am dealing with deep ruts and stuff, want to get more clearance. thought about a 2" lift as one option, option 2 28" tires.
Don't want to have to deal with a clutch kit if possible, is there such a thing as 28" tires that are not a ton of weight compared to the stock and steel wheels?
Are alloy 14" lighter than 12" steel? or should I stick with staying at 27" or 26"?
may do this at the end of summer after warranty is complete.
I would not recommend zillas for these machines..... I would recommend them for lighter atvs 110% but not a side by side due to the fact that they are soft and side by sides are heavy. Just my opinion though..... maxxis carnivores are all the craze right now for light weight tires for a side by side. I'm really enjoying mine so far and they look great too.
Maxxis Bighorns then all the way. I been through 3 different tires now. These are by far the best.
28x10x14's fit on my 7" wide wheeels (STI HD5 Beadlock)
The 10" width makes all the difference in the world, and fit my '16 Trail with plenty of room to spare.
Generally the inches (26" vs 28") make less of a difference than the ply rating. 6ply and substantially lighter than 8 ply IMHO.
Tires won't have any bearing on your warranty. Besides you can always put back on the PTX tires if it mattered when you took it in for service or whatever. (But seriously that's not something that would effect your warranty at all).
stay with the 12 just get some 12x8x12 wheels and 27x12x12 all the way around maxxis big horns and be done with it. more sidewall and can loaf down for snow way better than a 14
Zillas are great don't get me wrong I just wouldn't trust them where I ride on a heavy side by side like the 900S. Too many sharp rocks, gotta have 8 ply where I ride. Original bighorns and maybe maxxis vipers would be the only 6 ply tire I'd trust on my rzr 900. On any atv though (big bore or small) zillas would be my first choice, especially in snow. I'd like to see a updated version for side by sides kinda what like they did with the new mudlite 2. Nothing too aggressive just a little more reinforced to withstand the extra weight of a side by side.
It's just because Mine is a 900S not a trail. I have a bandit spring kit that gives me a little more clearance but I don't have a lift kit. The clutching is pretty much the same on the trails and the S and the 28 carnivores weigh the same as the stock REAR 27 inch dirt commanders that came on the machine from factory. Should have no trouble turning them on your machine without a clutch kit.
Do you get any pavement riding with these tires? Just looking at noise. Well and make sure they don't wear stupid fast on pavement like the DC do.
Im looking at the Carnivores, the Maxxis Liberty, or the Tusk terabytes. The trails here are rocky, dry dirt, gravel, and pavement. No real mud and we snowmobile ride in winter.
You said your set up is 44lbs per. Do you know what the stock rear set up is total? Or did you mean the tires and wheels are the same in this quote?
If I can go 28 x 10 and stick with the 12" steel for now, looks like my options are Big Horn 2, Dirt Commander or Blackwater Evolution. More options when 14" but then the added cost of new wheels. Oh also the wife may kill me if I go either route.

They clawed their way through everything I threw at them, they look badass, and they're tough! I probably would have bought another set if I wasn't so curious about the carnivores. Very happy with the carnivores though they ride super smooth and great traction.

Blackwaters are definitely a viable option too. But note, literally every tire runs smaller than advertised .5-1" in my experience. This may be in part to inflation, but that's how 28"s and even 29"s can fit depending on width.
Ok, got approval from wife. I am thinking 28 x 10 x 14 all around Big Horn 2.0 just not sure it will fit, and RMATV doesn't show this for fitting my 2017 50" Trail. but I can go GBC 27". I don't like that it doesn't show, kinda scary that I may be ordering a non fitting setup.
Also I will be ordering a 5th for spare. if not all the same, do I go narrower front for spare or wider rear for spare.

Don't worry about the RMATV assessments. Same on Amazon. These are like factory defaults, that just means they haven't been tested. On 2016 50" 900 Trail, 28x10x14 BigHorn 1's fit perfectly with no rubbing whatsoever.
Which wheels are you putting these on? Stock 7" wide ones?
Edit: 28x10's are only for the 14" rims thats probably why.
Yes you can do smaller in front and larger in back if you want. The reason most of us don't do this is because if you get a flat, you almost have to carry 2 different types of tires with you. Easier to wrap all 4 corners.
I am planning on the 14" STI. I didn't think 11" front and back would work, I have the stock 7" wide tires on now on 12" I believe they are 26 x 7 x 12" front and 26 x 8 x 12 rear. I will change out both tires and wheels.
Well it can work if you need it to, and if you have 14" STI HD5 or HD6's they are 14-7 which you can easily fit 28x10x14 Bighorn 1's on. I don't know about 2's, but I like the 1's cause it has the white lettering esthetically, and they drive freaking great.
I really noticed an improvement from my STI Black Diamond 27x9's to the 10" wide ones. All the difference in the world as far as stability.
Yes using this link, my only choice in 14" wheel and 28" is 28 x 11 or 28 x 9. This is for the 2.0 big horn. for the original they do have it available in 28 x 10 x 14, but that would be like 6 more pounds each from what I understand for my 900.
looking more into weight, looks like I would be about the same weight with the original Big Horn and going 28 x 10 x 14 all around. I will have to call them tomorrow as you can't order online 5 wheels and tires and get the discount as they are sold in pairs for wheels and tires.
about 2 lbs more per wheel. so one last thing, I don't have power steering, but not alot of difference so still in limbo. I will pull the trigger tomorrow on one of these, thanks to all for your input. Must have been all the ruts the wife was in this weekend, can't believe she gave the go ahead on this
