front cv boot

Just had my front outside cv boot replaced due to a pin hole in it and slow leakage, after I got it back from the shop I noticed the new boot was twisted and not looking like the other boots. After a few short rides the boot blew up!!! Grease all over, I called the guy who replaced it for the last two weeks and he won't call me back. I called a Polaris dealer and now he is saying prob something wrong with the axles/cvs and that why the boot is twisting...I originally found a pin hole and the original boot wasn't twisted at all...could something have happened when they replaced the boot...maybe unseated the axle??? It runs fine with no clicking or anything, not sure why all of a sudden the boot was all twisted then tore itself open....any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Without looking at it, I would think he put on the wrong boot? To big most likely.

Re: front cv boot

the Polaris dealer just called and after putting on an aftermarket boot and 5 minutes riding around the boot started to twist again...he is ordering an o.e. polaris rzr boot and will try that...he said everything seemed good, cv's were turning fine no clicking or binding and doesn't understand why its doing this...no one else has any ideas????

Re: front cv boot

You don't have any Gaurds that have bent in. I have seen that twist em off. I would suggest they jack it up in the air and do full turn to turns and look at the boot then. If the CV is good then something is hitting the boot and causing the Twist.

must be a bad boot, the wrong boot, or a poor install.

Re: front cv boot

if the guy did not clean the cup and the shaft properly and had a bit of grease on it while he tightened the clamp that will cause the boot to twist.

Re: front cv boot

it seems because i put on the forward a arms, aftermarket boots won't work...they would kink at full turn then get twisted and eventually disintegrate....this little bit of info cost me a lot even though I told them to use a stock boot, when they found out it wouldn't work they had to go far away to another polaris dealer to get the stock boot then rode it around for a while and charged me over $200, even though I told them from the beginning to use the stock boot...another shitty polaris service center!

Re: front cv boot

I would not pay! You asked them for a curtain product and they did there own thing. Against what the customer asked for. I bet if the no name book worked they would have charged you for a Polaris one and never said a thing.

Re: front cv boot

Next time you have a pin hole in a cv boot, the black high heat gasket maker will seal it up. One of my inner rear boots had a pin hole that I used that stuff on thinking it may work temporary but to my surprise, its still holding after a year.

Re: front cv boot

Thanks for the tip jerrzr...will def do that next time, although the forward a arms do put a little more stress on the cv boots than the stock a arms but will def give the gasket maker a try...good ending to this story...the owner of the dealership met me at the counter...listened to me and charged me the normal rate for a stock boot replacement, little over a $100, will def go back there again since the owner was a stand up guy

Re: front cv boot

I kind of have the same problem going on right now, I had an 8" S3 lift installed on a 1000 with the gorilla axles and the inside boots on the rear are heating up and exploding like balloons and I cant figure out what is causing it this is my second set of boots. its not low on fluid or anything and the axles are not at such a high angle that it could be causing cv binding that i can see. I called s3 and first they told me that the axles needed to be broke in lol,, then he told me i was driving too far too fast 2miles at 30-40mph lol. something is going on and I cant figure out where the heat is coming from weather it is the cv's or something in the rear end.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've never heard of that stuff being used for boots. Is there a brand name that works better than others? I have about a 1/8 inch puncture in my cv boot. Will it seal it? Is there a process that is needed when you apply it? How thick do you put it on? How wide do you make the 'patch'?
Thanks.
