So how do we know the new engine won't have the same problem. Is there a way to check for it?

Re: Second engine failure

Are any of the 2013s blessed with this crank with flashing in the holes and poor lubrication to the rod bearing????

Typically the block has the holes cast or drilled to carry pressurized oil to various bearings and up into the head for the overhead cam.
I think it's the block with the problem not the crank, and I suspect it was limited to 2012 models but can't be sure.

I wish there was a way to tell, I doubt even a mechanical gauge would tell much...My luck my rod bearing is chewing away now.

Could always tear it down this winter for something to do... See if the bearing looks overheated...

Re: Second engine failure

Well I survived the multi Piece of crap O-ring intake ordeal (thanks to the forum or Id never known) so hopefully no more major issues. Every once in a while my EPS and engine light come on but not for very long. So far Im happy overall with the 570...And NO, I will not tear it down for something to do to see how the rod bearing looks!!

Re: Second engine failure

I hope they have the problem fixed, as I said this 570 is a blast to ride. Mine was a 2013 model, but purchased in August of 2012 so maybe the problem was limited to the 2012's and it is fine. Polaris must like the 570 as they are putting it in their new Sportsman. Of course maybe they are making more money by selling replacement engines and parts so they elected to go with the 570 for that reason??

Re: Second engine failure

I think it's just a much more modern engine, derived from the 900's engine design. I wouldn't be surprised to see more models going to a ProStar engine; have heard rumors of an 800cc ProStar engine but nothing in writing.

Re: Second engine failure

I actually spoke with a sales man yesterday and he said the same thing, that Polaris is coming out this coming January with a detuned 800 prostar engine that is the same one in the 900. However, the price tag might keep a lot of us from upgrading.

De-tuned, huh? I can see the engine-modders drooling from here! I'll bet someone tries to retrofit that engine into their current 800, once someone else has rolled and trashed their new one and sells the pieces/parts.

A wise man once said not to purchase a first year ride. Give it a year and see how it works out.
