570 Axle Stone Damage

The XP 900 has this problem on the drivers side. The RZR 570 has the problem on both sides. Picture 25 & 26 are from my buddies stock 570 with 424 miles. Picture 27 & 28 are from the drivers side on my 570 with 2 inch wheel spacers and a bit over 1,600 miles. Polaris needs to add stone guards to both of these models.

On the drivers side its possible to have a stone jam on the drive boot clamp causing boot failure. I expect there will be trans case damage with high mileage. I just hate the stone grinding and the shock load on the axle bearing as the stone grinds through the gap.

The 2 inch wheel spacers reduce the problem and I may install some stone deflectors or shields to prevent this problem.

Re: 570 Axle Stone Damage

Would the A-arm guards avoided these damages?

Re: 570 Axle Stone Damage

Nope I have A-arm guards. It going to take a inner fender. I get small stones on top of the engine and everywhere else under the bed. It like a tornado under the engine cover. I hope a vender will make something available and for the XP 900 too.

Re: 570 Axle Stone Damage

Is this issue only for ProStar engine configuration with combined tranny/rear diff?

Re: 570 Axle Stone Damage

Yes just the XP900 and RZR 570. I don't think this will cause a failure except for maybe a boot clamp getting scraped off and that could take 10,000 miles in the desert. It would take a wedge shaped stone to jam and damage the aluminum case.

How about wrapping it with some black tape?

Re: 570 Axle Stone Damage

Pictures 001 through 011 are my 570 with 2,100 miles. Polaris really needs to offer stone guards for desert riding. I find small stones and sand on top of the engine and everywhere in the engine area. A inner fender might fix this problem or a stone guard near the axle area.

I'm not waiting on Polaris and will make some stone guards. Care must be taken to avoid heat problems by blocking cooling air flow.

Re: 570 Axle Stone Damage

I know this is a old thread, but is anyone noticing the same problems? My axles are grooved pretty good, and I have never come up with a fix for this. I get a lot of stones grinding in the brake calipers/rims as well.

Re: 570 Axle Stone Damage

Going to a 14 inch rim will resolve the rocks in the caliper issue. Not sure about the rest of it

Re: 570 Axle Stone Damage

I have thought about going to 14 in. rims when this set of tires wears out. once a year I have to repaint part of the frame from getting bead blasted by all them little stones. just was wondering if there was a place to mount some sort of a mud flap to deflect them.

Just to clarify, you're not talking about the axle, you're talking about the CV joint housing?

If I was going to wrap it with something it would be Teflon tape.
