Does anyone own a 570 that does'nt backfire. Mine has 450 miles on it and I get little pops sometimes when I let off the gas quick but it has not gotten any worse and the dealer has no fix.

Re: backfire

Does it do it when its Hot(engine and exhaust) or cold? Hot COULD be the packing in the muffler. I have a Home Built exhaust using Harley mufflers and it will "pop" or kinda backfire when the pipes are really hot like after a hard run and then going downhill at an idle.

Re: backfire

mine did the same. change the spark plug. they use a champion plug from the factory. Seams like they foul out early. i changed mine to an autolite but others prefer the NGK CR9EIX.

Just to clarify, so we're all speaking the same language; "backfiring" is occurring when you're getting popping or flash-back in the intake tract, not the exhaust. It is most often caused by tight intake valves or out-of-phase ignition timing. If the popping sound is coming from the exhaust, that's not backfire, but, rather is caused by a combination of too rich a mixture and a phenomenon known as "reversion", wherein fresh air is being sucked back up the tailpipe, where it mixes with the hot, overly-rich, unburnt fuel in the pipe and then combust's explosively, making a (often-times loud) popping sound. Straight-pipes and straight-through mufflers, or mufflers with the baffles pulled-out are very much prone to this condition. Just FWIW...........................

Cheers

Re: backfire

Mine still backfires in the exhaust when its hot. Dont matter what the politically correct term is and the OP didnt specify intake or exhaust.
I still bet its the muffler, but changing the plugs is fine. Just make sure you get the same temprature range as the stock ones. The range is in the plug number. Your auto parts dealer will be able to cross reference a similar heat plug in a different make. putting a "colder or hotter' plug COULD do damage and void the warranty. I run BKR7EIX 2667 ,NGK Iridium plugs in my 800. same heat range as stock. Yours might be different. You might even check what the gap on the plug should be and is. It could be set wrong.
