rzr vs artic cat

My friend has an artic cat and test drove both the rzr and the cat. He absolutely loves the cat's ride. Says it beat the rzr's ride hand down. AC has previewed the 50" artic cat at the march 13 show and says it will be out in early 14. My friend also looked into the ac's warranty issue and service and says they are certainly better than polaris. Any thoughts on all of this. I have to say having some choices in the 50" market would be a nice change and might actually make polaris do better at customer service.

Re: rzr vs artic cat

i will assume your talking about the wildcat?

i will give my 2 cents but only because of my history with cat.

i have owned AC all of my adult life pretty much. 2-400's 3-H1's a prowler and a 500. i also used to do warranty work for steel horses.

the BEST thing about the WC is its suspension. AC really out did themselves in that department... BUT it has basically the same old diffs. weak. they have several known issues and not the best EFI system since they do not use a tmap sensor. they also have a SLD which is junk.

many folks get random EFI codes that really don't exist.

here's a fun little thread from earlier this year...

Beware of engine problems and poor customer service - ArcticChat.com - Arctic Cat Forum

i am still the owner of 2 cats... the H1650 in my sig and i have a 300 4x4 for a dedicated water bike. BUT, they are both carb'd bikes for a reason.

and customer service/ warranty issues are only as good as your dealer. most folks don't understand that you can use ANY dealer you wish for warranty.

this is my first polaris to own and i have to say this new EFI system is TOP NOTCH. the diagnosis system is second to none. show me another atv manufacturer that non only shows the sensor at fault BUT the exact wire(s) at fault just from reading a number on the pod.

like is said. if anyone is die hard AC, its me. but cat simply done nothing to step up their game in the drive train department besides a more powerful engine. that's like putting a bandaid on a broken leg.

other things to consider...
the rzr's stator output is significantly more than a WC
the wildcat will make way more ground clearance with factory suspension
the WC really has no front end protection. i have seen tires/ hubs ripped clean off
the WC has WAY lore leg room ( thats what i liked the most)

i hope my opinion helps. i only like to comment on things i have experience with and i have about 7 years under my belt with cat so i hope this sheds some light.

Re: rzr vs artic cat

I have a wildcat and it is pretty much a POS. I bought it in june and its already been to the shop twice under warranty. The only things about the wildcat that shines are the suspension, the frame, and the seats. It is underpowered, slow, has a horrible steering rack/design, horrible turning radius. The warranty has been great and covered everything but ive had enough. I bought it cheap to give it a try and it failed the test. Im going back to a RZR S. Its the perfect machine for the way I ride.

Re: rzr vs artic cat

i almost hate all the stuff i read about them. its one of those "i told you so" deals when they first came out i could just look at them and tell it was going to have a problem keeping up in the reliability department...

in cat's defense, they were designed to be competition for the rzr in the dunes and down here people put 31's and 32's on them just because they clear them and then call them a POS when they break. but i guess that can be said for the new rzr's as well. look at the reverse chain's that popo went to, horrible idea but it was a plan to get away from bevel gear problems i reckon.

also cats have never been a champ in the speed department....
look at when AC came out the thundercat for example, a 800 canam would still beat it right out of the box.

to each is own i guess. i could care less about speed. i like GC and gearing down low.

polaris does have a great R&D department, but every brand has their problems. i guess its all in how you use it,

Re: rzr vs artic cat

I owned a 08 rzr turbo and now have a wildcat.

I ride windrock almost everyweekend with a group of rzr xp's. Its pretty much agreed with all that wildcat is the best for were we ride.

Although, I havnt rode with a xp1k yet
