Melted Tail Light Lens

So after filming this video I noticed that my tail light was melted inside and out.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

As you can see from the photos that even the light diffuser inside the lens has been melted. Also the plastic encasement around the bulb has been melted.

I'm not sure if the bulb was cracked prior to yanking it out of the lens. I had to force it out since it was surrounded by the melted plastic.

Re: Melted Tail Light Lens

My 2011 800 s started to melt the lenses but I figured it was from riding the brakes. I eventually replaced the lense covers. It was not as bad as yours.

Re: Melted Tail Light Lens

That makes sense, but I don't think its from riding the brakes.

Come to think of it it's probably from using my winch to pull some logs off a pile recently. Holding the brakes on to lock the wheels...

Ugh... Do you remember what the damage$ were for the new lenses?

Re: Melted Tail Light Lens

just found one of the tail light lenses in the garage.

By the way nice yard. I wish it only took me 30 seconds to get to a riding spot.

Has anyone tried LED lights? If so, where did you get them?

Re: Melted Tail Light Lens

safe to assume the 900 has the same tail light bulb as the 570? I am too lazy to go out and pull the bulb myself to check. I can look at it later in the week.

Re: Melted Tail Light Lens

Polaris has always been bad for melted lenses ,or at least the ones I've owned.
Anyway off topic team222badbrad what kind of shelter/garage is that ?

Re: Melted Tail Light Lens

I had the same problem of melting and in my case Was because I bypassed my brake press switch because it broke. And that causes that your stop lights are always on. And melts the policarbonate or plastic housing...the brake press switch s the number 9 in the diagram.

Re: Melted Tail Light Lens

yes when the brake press switch broke it makes the lights to be on "stop" all te time, and consequently the heat melts the light...

Re: Melted Tail Light Lens

I'll definitely have to look at LED's now. I would have never expected that holding the brakes on would heat the lenses up so much to melt them. Very poor engineering and testing... IMO.

It's a Shelter Logic RoundTop 10x20.

It's has been a nice garage so far. Bought it in March 2012.

Highly recommend getting a roundtop/arch style over the traditional style.
