cant decide on RZR 800 or 900 really don't want to spend the extra money on 900 if 800 will do well in the dunes and top speed is good

any info would be great

Re: top speed

800 will be ok if you don't have any big hills. Honestly I would buy the 900. After owning a 800 you will most likely spend more money trying to make the 800 faster. Just bite the bullet and buy the 900. Just my .02.

Re: top speed

If you plan on spending alot of time in the dunes, I would get the 900 for sure. If you planning on mostly trail riding, the 800 should be fine for you.

Re: top speed

I haven't had a chance to get mine up to top speed as it's new and I'm trying to go somewhat slow breaking it in. I have about 30 miles on her so far and have hit around 55 mph for a short time. It seems to me though that it's getting a little quicker the more I drive it? I've read the stock RZR4's are capable of around 61-63 mph. I'll be checking that out here shortly.

Even though I've not had mine at the dunes yet, I'd say if you are planning on duning I'd go with the 900. I chose the 800 because of price and it was an LE and I liked the looks of it. I figured the 800 has been out a while so bugs "should" be worked out. I plan on taking my family with me regularly and don't need to go 70 mph across the sand, although it would be nice by myself! I can tell already that once I get into some big sand hills this thing will probably struggle some, but will still be capable. Should be a fantastic trail machine though in that 25-40 mph range. It rides crazy smooth. Would an aftermarket pipe do much for power or just make things loud? I don't plan on a turbo as if I wanted to do that I should have got the 900 and been done with it.

Re: top speed

what should the top engine rpm be at full throttle at top speed with a stock 800? I've only seen mine at around 6200 rpm so far, but I have not held it to the floor for more than few seconds. I'm wondering if my throttle adjustment is off, like it's only 3/4 throttle when floored. I've seen some stuff on the site talking about that.

Re: top speed

My top speed in Glamis last weekend was just about 50 mph, at 6050 rpms. But I was running the stock Bighorns with pressure lowered to about 8 psi. I have hit 65 on hard pack. We added a Big Gun Exhaust system and Fuel Commander before this trip to Glamis.

We only make 1 or 2 trips to Glamis during the season, mostly we haunt the Ocotillo area. Eventually, I will get the paddles for Glamis, but it isn't a priority.
