Exactly where do you adjust the throttle cable?

So i was reading about adjusting the throttle cable, and noticed there is about 1/2" slack in mine, obvious as the cable is slacked at the peddle. However, it seemed that the cable stopped pulling just before the peddle hit the floor, like the last 1/2-1/2" was just me pushing it. I read someone posted see how far your peddle moves before the rpms move, and it is about 1/2". I just want to make sure i am not just searching for something that is not there.
Anyways, There is not adjustment at the peddle i could find, and i could not get to the throttle body in the back, yet i might add. Do i need to take off the entire bed, to get to it. i removed the back seats, and the panel, and the clutch vent tube connection, and still could not see it. I guess what i want to know is, do i need to take the bed top, or bed off to get at the throttlebody. Also figured there might be an adjustment under the car somewhere, under the skid plate. Just looking for a little direction from those that have done this.

Thanks,
Chris Bishop

Re: Exactly where do you adjust the throttle cable?

it is there, and you do not need to take the bed off. there is a little rubber boot covering the adjustment nut. super easy.

Your in the right area... With the panel removed behind the seats, locate the intake manifold (located on the drivers side of the head), moving towards the drivers side of the RZR 4 the throttle body is next and the throttle cable is attached to the throttle body... Pull back the rubber boot, it takes a 10mm wrench and a 8 mm wrench to adjust the throttle cable... Turning the adjuster in is lower RPM, turning the adjuster out increases the RPM...

Hope this answers your question

Re: Exactly where do you adjust the throttle cable?

I just adjusted mine (2011). I had to take the bed off, as there was no access to the cable through the access panel.

Re: Exactly where do you adjust the throttle cable?

the slack adjuster is about 1.5 ft from the tb.. just follow the cable back till you find it

Re: Exactly where do you adjust the throttle cable?

Not sure on a 4 but on my 2011-s I couldn't get to it from the inside panel so i just pulled the bed off for a couple of reasons. First it made it reallt easy to find and adjust the throttle cable adjuster which on mine was screwed right on the throttle body. Second it allowed me to clean everything good. Third It allowed me to get a good look at my vent tubes that from outward appearances looked fine but with the bed off i found the two melted. Pulling the bed was simple to do and took about 3o minutes and now that I.ve done it once could do it in less time. The end result is definitly worth the effort. Once you pull the bed its right in front of you. There is a black rubber boot over the jamb nut just pull it back . I believe it was a 14 or 15 mm.

yep and better response. Feels like alot more hp . Apparantly mine has always been wrong. Fastest mine ever went was 61 after doing some alignment adjusting but had slowly gotten slower. I guess the cable stretched some. Recent top speed was 55-56 now hits 66 and gets there alot quicker. I thought everybody was kinda exegerating there top speed but not anymore.

Re: Exactly where do you adjust the throttle cable?

This is not a good long term solution, but after installing my snorkel kit and putting everything back together, and THEN reading this thread, I took three small washers, cut a small section out to form a V, and inserted them at the pedal end of the cable, in between the pedal frame and the cable end flare. A couple of wraps of black tape, and you are on the go again until you can get time for a more in depth fix. Use the required number of washers to clear all slack out but not increase your idle.

Re: Exactly where do you adjust the throttle cable?

I had heard recently that they all come set that way by the factory so you don't really get to 6600 RPM you only get to 6000. That way its less stress on the motor over time. You have to fix it to get the throttle to open up all the way. Sneaky Polaris!
