Problem! clutch clicking while in reverse - help

Ever since we picked up our 170, even when backing it up in the trailer at the dealership, in reverse, it sometimes clicks, like the clutch or transmission is jumping a tooth(so to speak). it sounds like something is going to break. I didn't get an owners manual with mine. Is this normal?

I figure it's something that nobody has come across yet, since these are so new. I haven't had a chance to look at it mechanically, I will probably let the dealer do that.

Cool Re: Problem! clutch clicking while in reverse - help

Now, your not talking about hitting the reverse throttle limiter, that makes the motor make a popping sound.

Re: Problem! clutch clicking while in reverse - help

Just got mine today and I have the same noise when backing up on the trailer. I think its the chain slipping on the sprocket. I believe the tension er is too loose but gotta look at it a little better. It only happens backing up a steep incline my predator 90 does the same thing.

That's what's what it feels like. But, I fear it's some sort of clutch issue. Let me know what you come up with. I'm going to try to look at mine this weekend.

the chain tensioner only works while moving forward. in reverse, accelerating or pulling hard will cause the tensioner to move with the chain and cause it to get loose. the noise you hear is the chain skipping a tooth on the sprocket. no big deal........just go real easy in reverse.

Re: Problem! clutch clicking while in reverse - help

The chain is the least of your problems ! Just wait untill the engine blows, starter needs built ,solenoid goes, throttle cable ,parking break,I can go on and on .My machine has been at a dealer for 13 weeks out of the 18 weeks I've owened it .Polaris customer service thinks this is acceptable and that everything is o.k. -Buyers beware !!You will find out what kind of company Polaris is after dealing with there customer service. It is by far the worst experience we have had with atv/utv's this was my 13th purchase is 5 years.Currently own 6 other machines and none are Polaris !!At least we can ride them.

Sounds like you have a lemon. I own several Polaris quads and utvs and find them to be very reliable.

Re: Problem! clutch clicking while in reverse - help

Consider yourself lucky 3240 .The first purchase of a Polaris has taught me a lesson!.Do me wrong 1 time your fault , Do me wrong a second time my fault, Do me wrong over and over and over again call me stupid for buyng a Polaris product. If you have a problem or mutiple problems in my case you would understand .Polaris customer service does not care about their customers problems as long as they continue sell new machines to other unknowing customers that haven't experienced the Pure Polaris Experience!!

Re: Problem! clutch clicking while in reverse - help

scott.... your whole problem may be your selling dealer...... i know a few friends and alot of people with the rzr 170 and over all most have had nothing they couldnt do them self....... not saying you dont have issues but if your dealer sucks that doesnt make the manufacture the problem....and haveing worked in customer service i can tell you wrong or right a customers actions will make or break what and how you get treated.... give me grief and your problem goes to the rear be nice and ill bend over backwards for you even if its nothing to do on our end.....

Re: Problem! clutch clicking while in reverse - help

johnnycat8 ,I do know what you are saying - I have been in business for myself for the past 13 years and I perform customer service every day. My kids rzr has been repaired at the number 1 dealer and the number 2 dealer in the district. That is why I think the prolbem is with Polaris. If you have ever spoken to polaris customer service more than one time you will understand where I am comming from.I am glad your friends rzr170's are working out .Mine hasn't and I am just frustrated the way Polaris has handled it.The dealerships say they have no power and suggested me writing the letters.
