Made Snorkels

I just made some snorkels for the little RZR after spending much time reviewing what you had all done. I have gone with Crow belts and the bar behind the seat. Since I did not want to cut the body panels, I went through the holes left by the stock seat belts after I removed them.

Here are the pics

1. Fabricating them with PVC pipe

2. Passenger Side Fabrication

3. Drivers side Fabrication

4. Passenger side pre paint

You will see in the rear view I have the Vent Racing intake along with the new belt support bar. Instead of using both bolts on each side for the support bar, I only used one each side, but angled the bar slightly forward before tightening it up. The Vent Racing intake fits perfect now, no touching the bar and no holes drilled in any of the body. I also made the final verticals slightly shorter before painting.

Next will be the front bumper bar, skid plates and exhaust...whew.

Do you think you need to have the pvc extend that high above the rear bar ? I have snorkled the pipes behind my rear seats through the location of the old seat belts. I am thinking of leaving the relocation of the cvt behind the seats. Any opinion on not extending them up in the air. I felt just getting them out from behind the rear tires was good. Thanks for any help .

This is a great post, thanks for the effort.

I followed your plans. Looks great and is clearly much improved over the stock solution.

So I wonder about this on the 170. How does it run with this mod? How loud is it for the driver or passanger?

If going through deep water what happens when the engine cooler fan is in the water and mud?

I like your install just trying to figure out if this makes sense for me to do on ours. Great pics and job well done looks very clean.

You still have to remember the air intake is at the childs shoulder level.. I just wanted the kids to be able to get feet wet, maybe seats... You would also have to snorkel the center air intake but theres that cooling system on the lower engine that I just dont know enough about yet to let my son drown it.. I drew up the designs to make a fiberglass piece to hook to a pipe & snorkel it as well..But never got to it (yet)..This engine has more holes in it than swiss cheese, its crazy!

If I can make something simple enough I actually will make about 10.. theres only about 7 or 8 snorkeled 170s on here... Who knows what I'll find, & I LOVE projects!.. Late summer we shall see....

I hate to butt in your thread here but I am using the Vent Air Intake too and I love it. The new style Intake System has a shorter Filter now so it will give you more space for your Cargo Net behind your seat. K&N High Flow Filter Part Number is RA-0560. If you order this filter from Sam at Vent Racing, be sure to tell him that you want the outer wear also. Sam is a lots of help at Vent Racing. Best time to get him is in the afternoon if you ever have any questions. I like your twin Snorkels. I am going to do my son's R 170 this weekend.

I don't know if saw my thread yesterday but speaking to Sam, Vent Racing is offering a Racing Head for the R170. It's not on their web site yet but if you are interested upgrading your head for much better top end performance, call Sam. I am planning to upgrade the stock head and also order the Big Bore Kit from Vent. I can't wait until I do all the modifications.

Y'all have a nice Holiday weekend....Steve

Pretty sure it is just to move air around the outside of motor. There is a fan under the screen that pushes air to cool the engine. It's pretty simple to take the stuff off and clean every so often. I do worry about getting water in there though. Just a strange setup. If you find anything about anybody having real breakdown problems, please post. I asked my dealer, and he was not aware of any issues.

So for those that have snokeled the 170 how is it running? Any issues at all?

Any heat issues does it make it loud? I have the vent racing intake kit and its loud as hell. My daughter hates it she can not even hear the stereo when it s cranked if she is getting on it over that intake kit.

I rode it and see what she is saying about how loud that intake made it. Maybe I need to add a back windshield to keep the noice out of the cab. Others notice how loud it is after this install.

I am wanting to get more perfromance out of hers so about to start on more upgrades thought I might as well snorkel since it will be apart already.

on the snorkels? if looking at the pictures from above that were taken from the seat side of the rzr. Which side is the intake and which side is the exhaust?? was hoping the intake was behind the passengers seat and exhaust behind the drivers seat so i can just run the intake through the seat belt hole on the passengers side and not really have to do to much to the exhaust side behind the drivers side if that is correct....but i could have them reversed....
