RickyRazr's Cage Build

Hello All,
Since I have the tools and shady tree skills to build a cage, I decided to build one myself. I ended up being able to find some 1 3/4" .095 wall DOM tubing. The whole cage will be built from this material.

The stock mounting pads for the stock roll cage are pathetic at best. I am beefing both front and rear up with some 3/16" steel plate. The rears will be held in place with four grade 8 bolts per corner. The fronts will be welded down.

Here is a shot of the cardboard template that I made which will be transferred to the sheet to be cut out with the plasma cutter.

The outcome. Two parts clamped together and ground evenly to produce identical parts.

Re: RickyRazr's Cage Build

Next step was to build the rear hoop. I wanted to maintain the stock lines except utilizing a hoop form.

Working up some bracing, coping, and preliminary mock-up.

These tube clamps will be used in the front to be able to remove the front plastics.

That's all I have done for now. I will be working on it all weekend and hope to have it completed. More to follow. Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: RickyRazr's Cage Build

that's pretty cool but now the rzr frame is the weak link and wouldn't it fold like a pretzel? what you should do is beef up the rzr frame to match the cage.

What you say is very true; however, my seats are going to be mounted to the cage not the RZR frame. That portion of the build will be on this thread as well. With the seats/harness/etc. attached to the cage, I could care less if the rest of the RZR breaks off from the cage in the event of a violent roll over. I know I will be safe staying in the cage.

You should try to learn. It is a great skill to have and comes in handy often. You could teach yourself how to weld very well within a month or less if you just kept up on practicing.

If you ever pick one up, make sure you get one with a 240v plug on it. Better range than a 120v machine.

Re: RickyRazr's Cage Build

Built spreaders and some cross bracing this weekend. Cage will drop approx. 3/4" once I cope the bottoms of the cage to fit the mounting pads. Next will be work on the rear cross bracing as well as hooking up the 4 points.

Re: RickyRazr's Cage Build

Those Are Way More Than Shade Tree Skills. If You Dont Mind Me Being Nosy, Where Can I Find A Bender And Coper Like You Are Using? Also, Where Do You Get Those Tube Clamps For Connecting The Tubing End To End? Thanks. That Damn Thing Looks Great.
