Remove Cage for Roll bar?

I was thinking of removing the whole cage and replaceing it with a custom chromemoly roll bar. The roll barr would mount where the main hoop mounts behind the seats plus something like the S where its piped to the rear and I was thinking of some kind of swing arm for a side mount.

Do you think this would be a bad Idea. The stock cage just gets in the way to much.

Re: Remove Cage for Roll bar?

i think he is talking about a Roll bar like a jeep has where it doesnt tie into the front where the A post would be.......BAD IDEA!!! you need to have the front support unless you like the idea of having a 1100 lb machine on top of you.

Re: Remove Cage for Roll bar?

i always thought the rzr would look sweet with no cage at all, maybe just a hoop behind the seat like old cobras had. has anyone got pics of a rzr without the cage? it would be dangurous i guess but it would look sweet.

Re: Remove Cage for Roll bar?

Here are a couple sketches I made quickly. The cage will be made of Chromoly 1-5/8" tubing so it will be 10X stronger than the stock one. And I do intend on tieing the new cage to the rear frame and to the front cage mount where the factory cage mounted.

Here is a side view the cage is shaded in black sorry for the shitty pics my scanner stopped working so I used my phone.

And no making fun of my sketches. LOL

Re: Remove Cage for Roll bar?

Really you guys think I'd be headless? The main hoop would be the same height as the factory main hoop. I'm thinking more like a Top fuel rail car where all the have is a main hoop / cage over their head. I'm thinking if it rolls it would just rest on the main hoop? There is noway the weight or speed the RZR is capible of will crush 1-5/8" chromoly tubing.

I think I'm going to build it and be the crash dummy. LOL
The point is to NEVER roll the RZR
Hell if you roll a RZR with a factory cage that tin would crush to pieces. In my eyes anything is better that weak tubing bolted together tubing.

Thanks for your imput guy I'll let you know how everything goes.

I understand what you want to do and how it's supposed to work. In the applications where it is already used, I think the key thing that allows it to work is that there is more metal involved in the vehicle than is found on a RZR.

I am thinking it would be a good idea to add a smaller roll bar to either the A pillars, like a half windshield or to have a front bumper similar to what's found on most rock crawlers. That way there will always be 2 points of contact that ensure that the occupants don't make contact with the ground if the vehicle inverts. Even then, I still think its a risky endeavor just to achieve a different look.
