Axles-removing-installing TIPS

I am trying to replace my OEM axles with gorrilla. Stock a-arms. I have the service manual for the rzr and it says just to just pull on the axle to get it out. Well a few people have tried and its not moving. Even tried to pry out abit but stopped.

Any tips, tools, that would help the help removing the orignal axles?

The Gorrilla axles I got are a few inches longer than the original ones. I thought the place I got them from maybe sent me long travel, but I called G Axles and they said that was normal and would fit.
We'll see.

Re: Axles-removing-installing TIPS

you could try a bearing splitter and a slide hammer behind the plunge joint. when your all back together, you should be able to grab the axle shaft and move it in and out of the plunge joint slightly. That will tell you if the axle is the correct length. ( no binding the cv's)

Re: Axles-removing-installing TIPS

I just changed my axles to the long travel kit from Lone Star. I agree that the axles look longer.

When I removed my axles, I just gave the shaft a tug and they came right out. You are probably going to have to apply a little pressure to the inside edge of the axle to get them out. I wouldnt pry against the case though. Get a longer pry bar and possibly a 2X4 to pry against. It only has a circlip on the inner axle keeping it in so its probably a little rusted in the splines that's keeping it from coming out.

Hope this helps.

Shane

It helps greatly if you have one person hold the axle straight or level while another gives it a tug or as stated above uses the "pry" technique.
If you decide to "pry" on the axle, use 2 pry bars across from one another so that you get an even pull on the axle.

Re: Axles-removing-installing TIPS

Thanks, hopefully I'll get a few friends over this weekend to get her back together..and finally cleaned up

I was ripping around a corner about 20-30 mph I think and hit a tree with the front left tire so hard that it lifted the rzr off the ground and hit the tree on the other side. The tie rod on the right snaped too So hoping that inside the case is bent or something.

I adjusted the suspension 2 clicks in the back and 1 in the front, plus was the first ride with the LTE and fuel box. So the ride was totally different. When I was getting comfortable I went outside my limits trying to get a better time...well thats when shit happens.

Totally understandable. I'm glad your not one to put the blame on Polaris like I hear too much. Like was said, it is just a snap ring holding it in. They can be a pain, but you just need to be abit aggressive sometimes.
How do you like the sound of your LTE? I haven't heard anyone say they dis-liked it.

Loud as hell..love it. Could be too loud for some. Set off a few car alarms when I drove past. But they were probably set high.

you tube is the best way go ahead then add the link.. But maybe it would be cool to start a new thread with it, like "video of LTE sound"..

Re: Axles-removing-installing TIPS

Well they were just rusted pretty good, and had no grease left. We ended up pulling so hard the boot ripped off! Then had to use channel locks to get the end off.

FINALLY used liquid wrench, let it sit then came RIGHT out.

Guess just needed some lube

Then got to the rear and found out I bent the rear a-arm bolt and a-arm....so I should get them in a few days. I hope I get to ride sometime this year

Stock parts suck for jumping...

Re: Axles-removing-installing TIPS

The two pry bar method is correct, and use some anti-seize when putting it back together.
