OK everyone, I want to address an issue That has been coming up OVER & OVER & OVER again It just doesn't stop..... Some of you are aware of my "build Thread" in the projects section. But as many of you really don't get into other peoples projects and/or look for specific details of a problem/issue/solution. I am going to make a Solution Here...
I'm Talking about Snorkeling your RAZR..
I have noticed that I covered the basis for the installation of a True snorkel relatively well (in my eyes its actually VERY VERY VAGUE).. Once I am done with this, I am going to make a VERY DETAILED thread with so many more pictures, the tools, the tricks, the ideas, the proper way to seal everything, the proper way to PRESSURE check and ensure no leaks... what to do if you buy a "Kit" because I can tell you now and from experience, anyone saying that they are selling a "kit" that has everything you need is in fact a LIAR!!, do they include all the sealants, NO, special tools, NO, Proper instructions, NO, contingencies (different parts) if you are running any type of aftermarket air box, NO and the list of short comings goes on!...A $150 'Kit", will easily turn into a $300+ project...I kid you not, And the time and care to properly snorkel your ride is not even mentioned, its also not just installing the "snorkel that needs to be done" there is actually much more and can be very time consuming..Example: wiring harness, your stock wiring harness has a black type of tubing (like shrink wrap but not tight) I'm NOT talking about the wire holding tubing that "organizes wiring". It's always nice to pull your front plastic off and undo your wiring harness to find that even though you took precautions....3 month old water comes pouring out of your wiring.. They don't even cover in the instructions to pull off and seal your Clutch Cover...What is the use of snorkeling anything, if you don't even know what the hidden weak links are...Nobody wants to find out the "hard way", So I will make a genuine THREAD, that is COMPLETE from start to finish covering absolutely everything, IT WILL INCLUDE WORKS FROM OTHER MEMBERS AS WELL AS PICTURES!, I am going to cover EVERY aspect!! once it's done we will REFINE it....Then maybe we can make it a "sticky" so the whole "snorkel" issue can finally be laid to rest. People will know what parts to buy, what benefits are from kits, what the shortcomings are, prices ect....And I will even cover the 2011 ect... with pictures!!, I don't usually "double post" (this describes my intentions a lot better than I wrote near the end of my "Build" thread) but I am going to take this last part and make a thread about solving the "snorkel" issue permanently for all those who just are not into reading a thread about my build. I can have it done within 10-12 days.. Just have to bring in a 2011 from my local dealer... Its time to nip this "whole" Snorkeling /submarine issue in the butt..
for those who want an idea of what I've been up too its here:

Any input or suggestions are welcome, I fully intend on not only using my work but combining the work of others in our Forum to Create this.."Manual" for the obsession of Snorkeling... This is also going to cover differant methods of snorkeling, not just the "basic" ones we usually see..

UPDATE: I SEE A THREAD WAS JUST STARTED ON THE 170 ABOUT SNORKELING AS WELL, I WILL ADD THAT TOO AS I HAVE MY SONS SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO MINE...

Cheers guys, Mike#9

Go for it. If you're going to pinch my photos or words (or anyone elses) all I ask is that you give credit where due.

In July '08 when I posted my guide:
http://www.rzrforums.net/projects-h...incl-parts-list.html?highlight=snorkel+photos
I couldn't find any photos, descriptions, parts lists, etc. Those who bought kits were being real hush-hush about what was in it & how it looked when done. That's all changed now.

Oh I plan on giving all credit whet credit is due, with a list of fellow contributors, if someone has a "beef" about a photo, that's fine.I will just make another as it's that easy and tweak the idea to better it..the reasons they are being "hush, hush" about the instructions is because there is nothing to talk about. Aside from the center hole you drill in the main rear plastics and the left and right measurements to the secondary holes there is NOTHING! That hasn't been covered or posted before. They want you to think it's "difficult" without them... Now I do recommend "kits" as you can get cool "rhino lined" type pipes, the initial piece that comes off the clutch cover is made for you and that saves you some great time, plus I'm all about helping vendors, even the small "mudder snorkel only" companies, but the instructions are so lacking that unless you actually are knowledgable enough to build one from scratch (knowing at least what must be done). Your not going to have an easy build at all, and it can be VERY frustrating...As members of the largest RZR Community and the #1 hitting site from google when asking various questions about the Razor, it's components or vendors/reviews, I would expect we can produce a "proper" and true "manual" that can help the total DIYer and KIT buyers (because like I said, NO KIT IS COMPLETE) and that includes the instructions..I even noted on my build how much I had to rely on other members (including yours) prior posting to get this down to being correct/borderline perfection...We have mudders all over the forum.. Nobody has explained how to do a proper "pressure" check to ensure no leakage , because a drip turns into a stream when your 3 feet under... This needs to be taught..I have the tools and methods as well as the know how... With the help of other members, we can get this done...thanks, Mike#9

Sounds like a great idea. I personally went with a kit, but there all a little different. Might really help out some people to do it the CORRECT way, before they find out there airbox intake leaks, among other issues and they hydrolock there motor.
Could save them some big $$.

I'm very thankful for the upcoming manual as I'm jonesin' to do this mod, but I'm a little apprehensive to jump right in with my (new to me '09) RZR. What's the status of the manual?? Not rushing, just excited to do this mod.

Thanks for your effort as I know this manual will help tons of us newbie forum members.

Yeah..I actually did the 170, as a short version for people that want to do something "simple" when they first purchace it.. I am moving to an advanced snorkel for the 170 now....

Im waiting for a crap load of parts to come in as Im going to have to compleely "re-Build" a snorkel system for the regular RZR also adding the version that I have done..Then I plan to be the first to figure out fow to safely and properly snorkel a Turbo..(No deeper than the intercooler) but thats still neck high, and its not just for going under water..Its mainly for "splash" protection...

So the answer is yes, I am getting somewhere with the book... Its going to be very informative, I list all parts purchased and the cost... So I will continue working it... I no longer have an "exact" time frame as I have oil filter relocation kits, dip stick relocation kit, oil pressures to get before and after to include with turbos and even whether the relocation kit is elevated or lower with the effect on pressure, got the first set of dual rate springs coming in, trying to get progresssives, the cage and bumpers are in anchorage "lost" I dont know where..Its just insane..+ just boxes of stuff, oh and th new clutch.......I'm getting there..

Hang in there fellow mudders, I will get there somehow.....
