Re: Home-made snorkels--incl. parts list
Thanks Guy, and Rubberdown for directing me to the Post. Put the Snorkel in the other afternoon and it looks great.
Thanks a lot, toughest part seemed to be getting that one factory rubber onto the street elbow, down on the lower vent. But all in all thinks went good. How have you guys tested your snorks for leaks? soapy water on the seams and a compressor blowing air in from the top? I wouldnt mind testing that factory fitting to street elbow connection, was so hard to see what was going on at the bottom of that. |

Hi guys I have an 08 rzr, I took off my air box tonight and was thinking of making my own cold air or snorkel with a cold air intake ( with the same size filter as stock and same size pipe as the intake pipe) from a ford mustang i had laying around, my question is after I took off the factory air box their is a eclectrical sensor and a hose with a 90 on it that were on the stock box what are they for? and is this a good idea or not. Also will this lean or or f-up the computer at all. thanks for any input. the local shop says to stay with stock

Re: Home-made snorkels--incl. parts list
The sensor tells the ECU what the air temp. and pressure is so it can adjust the A/F ratio. The hose is the crankcase breather--like a PCV on a car. Some folks just let the hose hang but it's more eco-friendly to plumb it into the intake somewhere so any oil mist gets inhaled & burned.

Re: Home-made snorkels--incl. parts list
First off GREAT post. I found 5 vent hoses in frame near air box. I assume they are rear diff, trans, transfer case, fuel tank and got no clue. I found the front diff and the main reason for my post is the radiator vent. I opened lid and see some dirt in it so it does need vented. I don't see enough room for a brass fitting to hook hose to. I am pretty sure it will hit the hood. Did you go through the hood? I was thinking I might use a piece of Gortex under cap to catch water but allow it to breath. Any thoughts on that? Any idea what the other breather is?

Re: Home-made snorkels--incl. parts list
I'm surprised. I didn't really measure anything. Just gave it the hairy eyeball. Dang sure doesn't look like there is that much room. I'll look closer tomorrow when I'm soober, sobar, not as inebriated.

Re: Home-made snorkels--incl. parts list
To be thorough there are 8 vent lines that need to be run front diff, rear diff, trans, transfer case, fuel tank, and 3 you have to find. 1 is on the bottom of the throttle body, 1 is the crankcase vent hose there is a slice about an inch long in it you have to cut the hose and put a T in it. I also reccomend putting a check valve in it (us plastic.com 1/4" check valve) and last the radiator overflow tank lid drill the hole on the lid bigger put a 90" brass pipe to hose connector on and run the lines it's that easy. lol

Re: Home-made snorkels--incl. parts list
I am pretty sure the slit one is so if it ices up pressure can still be released thru the hose instead of popping out the oil dipstick.
Think that is what someone said on here before. |

Re: Home-made snorkels--incl. parts list
I would think that if the air cleaner froze up so bad the crankcase would pressurize it the motor would have stopped from lack of air long before. Has to be something along the off road line though. Any other on road motor runs to the air cleaner and thats it. Sure would like to know as I would rather just run it to the a\c and be done instead of running it up with the snorkels.

Re: Home-made snorkels--incl. parts list
It's slit so if condensation builds up in the breather hose itself & freezes the crankcase pressure can still get out. The slit is closer to the engine where it gets warmed up.
Remember these machines were designed by Polaris...in Minnesota, doncha know. It gets wicked cold up dare, ay?.
