Installing a rich/lean gas gauge

Does anybody know how to install a gauge where you can tell if you're running lean or rich? I've seen them in Autozone and i almost bought it but when i realized how it was to get hooked up I didnt know if it was possible. The one i looked at clamped onto the wiring of the O2 sensor, which duh... is not on the exhaust pipe of a rzr. I've seen a setup with this gauge on a rzr already but cannot find the post. Anybody with any suggestions or pics of how to do this?

It really would help me to set my BigGun controller. Feels I'm still running rich and want more power! Any help?

Re: Installing a rich/lean gas gauge

If it doesn't come with a o2 sensor, it is not a real a/f gauge. For you to know the actual a/f, you have to sample the exhaust.

Re: Installing a rich/lean gas gauge

I appreciate everyone's input on this a/f gauge. I was looking for a permanent gauge to install so i can always maintain a correct mixture. UTVCrap, I appreciate your advice as well and I'll be calling you soon as I get my bike back from the dealer.

Re: Installing a rich/lean gas gauge

If you install a narrow band sensor, you will not be able to accurately measure the ratio. The narrow band cannot show fine adjustments it will only show a rich or lean condition I know it has a stoich range in the gauge but it is not as accurate as a wideband. You need the wideband to accurately measure air/fuel ratio. Also if you install the wideband do not leave the o2 sensor in all the time as it will burn out very quickly.

Re: Installing a rich/lean gas gauge

If I install a K&N air box, & dual exhaust, do I need to make adjustments, or is that just fine tuning that will really only be evident on a track?

Re: Installing a rich/lean gas gauge

I am interested in a kit too. Post up what you have Johnny when you get a chance!

I looked at the HunterWorks kit, but I would like a more conventional looking AutoMeter gauge if possible so I can match it up with other gauges in the future.

I think AutoMeter actually sells a full kit, but it is made for full size cars and has a rather large O2 sensor. I was hoping someone made a smaller sensor as to not block so much exhaust flow in our relitively small exhaust pipes. (although it looks like the hunter kit uses a full size GM style O2)

Thanks!

Re: Installing a rich/lean gas gauge

Autometer does make one ... if you are getting a wide band ... which is the only one to get ... they prety much all use a Bosh O2 sensore. Once you weld the bung in the exhaust, you are really not blocking any flow. As far as size goes ... see if you can spot the O2 sensore in the picture? The only problem you will have ... the O2 sensore wiring is just long enough ... would have been nice if it was a foot longer.

Re: Installing a rich/lean gas gauge

I see some negative input on the o2 sensor being permanently installed. Will it deteriorate from prolonged exposure to the exhaust? I can definately see the advantage, if you go to different elevations regularly.

Thanks! a kit like that is what I would want. I have a RZR S header and was thinking of putting it in that exact spot as it is nice and flat right there where the 2 header tubes meet.

Johnny what is the price for the AutoMeter Wideband kit for us forum members?
