Wrench Snorkel Questions?!?!?!

Hey guys, I am getting ready to snorkel by RZR. My question is this, can I just get rid of the junk airbox and run a hard mount air filter above the bed? There should be no reason I need the airbox as far as I can see. I want to just pipe it out the bed and to the filter, and I will do the same for the clutch intake and exhaust. Any help would be great. Also, if I do this will I have to do some jetting?

Re: Snorkel Questions?!?!?!

No jetting due to these being EFI. Definitely get rid of that POS stock airbox! We did the K&N Apollo as you can see from the pic cordachine posted of our rides. The install looked much more clean with the filter under the bed, but it's much easier to service the filter above the bed. If you run the K&N and exhaust, look into a fuel controller sooner or later. I'm running stock exhaust and i'm going to look into one. My exhaust had caught some stuff on fire yesterday...haha

Also, there is a post in the mod section of the snorkle process that we did to our machines. Just look for the Apollo post.

Re: Snorkel Questions?!?!?!

That is what I was thinking, but I was just going to make the set up. I was just thinking about mounting the airfilter on the end of the snorkel. Did you guys just plumb right into the intake rubber boot? That looks like a nice set up!!

Re: Snorkel Questions?!?!?!

You can do it, and I hope the apollo kit is doing well for the other member, but I can speak from personal experience and say sand got by the filter. I will be re-installing the factory box this weekend.

Re: Snorkel Questions?!?!?!

If everything is sealed how can sand get past the filter? I want to make a air tight duct passage to the filter. If the only place for a intake is the filter then it should be good, or am I not getting something? I know the filter will have to cleaned way more with it exposed to everything, but the damm thing is always dirty with the stock air box to begin with. I appreciate all the imput. I want to do this right the first time!!

Oh yeah, where is everyone getting the rubber clamps to seal the pipe joints and filter together? Looks like a manufactured deal but I have never seem them at the parts store.

Re: Snorkel Questions?!?!?!

So far nothing has got past my filter, but I don't go to the dunes either. If you are worried about the fine stuff, contact outerwears and they can custom make you an outerwears for the apollo filter. That's my next step on mine. Everyone says there is issues with all these manufactures of filters, but think of all the K&N, Amsoil, and Unifilters on machines all over the world. There is no way to block every partical without blocking air flow. This isn't something that only effects the RZR, it effects all machines with filters.

Well that's the million dollar question. What difference does it make how long/short, what it's made of or how cheap or expensive the canister is...the bottom line is how is dust getting past the filter?

Re: Snorkel Questions?!?!?!

So far nothing in mine, but I haven't ridden anywhere really dusty. I ran a K&N in my rhino with an outwears cover and a snorkle and never had problems, so my guess is that I won't have issues with this either. I would just make sure you have an outerwears if you are running any kind of filter period. I just have to call and order mine still...lol
