L&R Storage Box Mod

I'm happy with the Polaris Lock-N-Ride box but after the first ride it was for sure that it was not sealed very well, as the inside had a fair about of dirt and dust inside. There was about .125 gap where the rubber seal came together, here a few days ago I thought I would add a ring of RTV silicone atop of the OEM seal and at the gap. When out for a ride today, very dusty, the outside of the box was covered in dust but no dust inside

Wow, I would have thought for $190.00 it would have been sealed better. Maybe a guy could just install a thicker rubber seal. There are some nice neoprene ones at our local Ace hardware. Just a thought.

Yea and for $11k I would have thought I wouldn't have to dick with an leaking intake system too. :-)

Must be a Polaris trend :-)

Re: L&R Storage Box Mod

I had thought it was water proof too but I found there's a hole in the bottom of the box.

Yes we do. Was at Bearwallow trailhead earlier & we're headed to our mountain (between Beckley & Lewisburg) for the July 4th weekend. The real question is are we related???

Re: L&R Storage Box Mod

I think the hole in the bottom and the gap in the seal is so it can "breathe". Hadn't noticed the hole in the bottom though!

.125" is pretty small... surprised you're getting dust in.

Re: L&R Storage Box Mod

Since I wrote that I got quite a bit of mud in there! But... it wasn't from when I went through the muddy pit of doom, since the contents were okay. It happened more recently, but it's been dry - so I've worked out it injested mud from when I was washing it.

I normally remove the box when washing just to remove the buildup on top of the bed. It also makes it easier to wash the box itself. I guess a lot of the dried on crud got forced in through that little hole.

I did the same thing. I siliconed that hole up!
