Laughing bypass awd control

ok to start do this at your own risk. i've replace my front cage with a billet one from superatv. after the rebuild i was still not getting an awd symbol on the speedo. i tried everything i could find on this forum and nothing helped. i hooked the plug to a 12v battery and poof i had awd. so i grounded the brown wire below the plug to the differential. i still got a light on my swith so i wanted to be able to use it. i ran a new jumper from the grey wire on the differential to the grey wire on the switch and poof awd with the flip of a switch. ok heres where it gets tricky. i left the differntial plugged in with my jumpers below the switch. i rode around for about 20 min. then i pushed the awd button.... blew the chassis fuse.. replaced fuse then hit the switch again. blew it again. after thinking for a while i unplugged the switch and it worked fine. i noticed the awd symbol showing up when shifting gears so maybe my electrical prob fixed itself? i'm going to undo my jumpers and try plugging it back in. will post the results. just wanted to post this because i could not find a usable awd work around on this forum. well here it is. ground the brown wire and i had to jumper the grey wire from the switch toall the way below the plug on the diff. i actually like it better. i dont need polaris to tell me when the front wheels should be turning...

Re: bypass awd control

When the diff is energized... it's not the ECU (or Polaris for that matter lol) that decides when it comes on/off, it's mechanical. You're diff is likely acting the same way it always did, and will still not be putting full power to the front wheels when you have traction in the front (like on pavement or at high speeds).

You just made it so you can energize the diff any time you want (instead of below 3400 rpm or whatever the setpoint is), which COULD damage it at high speeds or if your rear wheels are spinning when you engage it.

Re: bypass awd control

I sorta figured that but i wanted to make sure it worked. i had it on my lift so it was easy to test. what i actually did was give myself awd back when something polaris did wouldnt let it work. Doesn't gear position have something to do with it also? all i know is have have read horror story's on here about geting this to engage. I have a fool proof work around, granting your differential is up to the task, that still uses the stock switch. if the system and differential were great in the first place we wouldnt be breaking them or having to troubleshoot them. btw i almost always stop before going in awd. almost all of my breakage comes when climbing out of steep banks which hopefully the billet cage will resolve. I only did this because the manual and all the help here could not fix it so i improvised.....

I do hate having to come to almost a stop, in order for the AWD to engage... so that would fix that problem!

The AWD works in all gears, but will turn off in Park... so it's a good fix for your situation.

Re: bypass awd control

Hmmm.....I never stop before turning it on. I do slow down allot and I don't switch it under load.
Maybe I've just been lucky.

It won't let you switch it on under load. You have to have less than like 3400 RPM or something... which is hard to achieve unless you coast down REALLY slow.
