The slower acceleration must be due to something else. The spacer has NO effect on anything but top speed.

The pictures and your explanation were very good. You done an excellant job. I have not attempted this yet but with your help I don't see any problems. Thank you.
Any chance of you doing the same thing with the air filter box? From what I have read it is a great problem.

this is incorrect due to removing the spacer effectivly " gears " it higher thus bringing it out of the power band lugging/bogging the engine . Mine had 2 miles on it when i removed it . made several passes ( drag racing another stock one ), 15 minutes later made several more with the spacer removed . about 7 mile an hour faster , but slower acceleration . I have been riding , racing , mechanicing , atvs since 1986 .

So is that true? It's about the only place I've read that. And if it does increase the gearing theoretically mpg could increase a little?

Will the removal of the spacer effect the warranty?

So did anyone else loose low end acceleration? Thought about removing the spacer as well but not if it is going to loose low end speed? Spoke to holztech the other day and they said don't take it out if i did their clutch kit.

I'm leaving mine in for now. I'm sure it does something other than improve top speed for free, nothings free - why do Polaris have a spacer at all? If it does change the gearing, then it makes sense that aside from the speed, acceleration, and economy changes, there is also increased load on the belt at low speeds.

Thats what im saying. i think it may be putting the belt under more pressure at low speeds

My dealer told me "no problem" if I take it out.

Re: Clutch Spacer Removal... THE RIGHT WAY! (pics)

Is this the same dealer that said there was "no problem" with the filter?

Spacer removal + uprated belt might be worth while though. My take is the RZR was originally meant to have a 65-ish top speed, but they lowered it to 55mph to extend the life of the belt, since that's a lot cheaper for the bean counters ($0.50) than a reinforced belt ($+20?), or a warranty belt replacement? Perhaps they just found the RZR needed to be geared slightly lower through testing... being geared as it was in stock form, but add on on two humanoids, 140lbs+ of accessories, and typical cargo that you take on a trail and it really was a bit too much of a strain.

That all seems logical, and having a spacer is a neat way and very cheap/quick way of being able to gear a vehicle to a speed of your choosing! We just need somebody to determine with performance timing equipment or some other means, that the gearing is actually changed and the spacer simply isn't a brick wall at the end of the performance envelope, which makes a lot less sense.

Uh...yeah

He basically said he was told...it was to limit the speed a bit and that they had not had any problems with a bunch of guys who have taken it off.

All I care about if/when the belt blows...I'll go back and say "You told me to take it off!"

And in regards to the filter...they are warrantying all the new parts for me...boot, filter, ring and lip on TB + if that doesnt work, a DF filter system at their cost.

Hey Matt when you go to Gorman to ride are the trails restricted to the 50" trail width UTV or ATV's? I have a long travel kit on my RZR. What exit off of the 5? Does it cost any to ride? Great post I am gonna try it. Great Pics too! I live in Whittier over the hill from Covina.

Re: Clutch Spacer Removal... THE RIGHT WAY! (pics)

i now have 1500 miles on the original belt with out the spacer . it will cruise at 55mph at a much lower rpm , which i think is alot easier on the engine .
